Cat has a large nasty cut but worried about vet bills

steven - please do let us know how you get on. Good luck. If you ring your normal vets there may well be an answerphone message with a number for out of hours calls, even if it is not covered by their practice.0

the PDSA will treat your cat for free but ask a contribution as long as you show you claim benefits(housing benefit i think).
google pdsa pet aid hospitals for their local one which does out of hours.

I've found these numbers for vets around that area you can try ringing
01628 622086
01628 890900
If no out of hours number is given, it will usually tell you what it is when you phone the usual number for the vet.DFD February 2012

Hi there,
My cat has been a bit off the last day or so, and when I picked him up he hissed at me. An hour or so ago I noticed he had blood on his back, slightly above his tail.
I managed to get him still and I cleaned it up with some warm water but the blood was still flowing and the cut is quite deep.
I looked online for subsidised vet care but they are all outside of my area (i am in buckinghamshire) and the advice lines are closed. He's in a lot of pain I think but I can't get him to an emergency surgery because of the lack of money.
I am on benefits at the moment after having surgery a couple of months ago. I am totally broke, have about 40£ to hand at the moment. Can't get credit card etc and have no family that can help me. My close friends all have money issues too. The only asset I have is my car and I'm seriously thinking of a log book loan (and I've read the horror stories) just to get my cat to a vet!
Any advice?
Are you near a PDSA?
If you're on benefits you should be entitled, if not they will still give your cat emergency treatment.Sigless0 -
vets cause animal cruelty by the prices they charge.

Hi guys - took him to the vets and he is all ok. Had a cat bite that turned into an abcess and they cleaned it up. He seems a lot happier now, they gave him some painkillers too. Was making a lot of noise when driving too the vets tho, yet didn't make a noise all the way home until we got onto the drive!
Total cost was £170 which I thought was extreme...I take it that they would have charged less if I had went ino 9-5. But yeah I managed to pay the bulk of it cos I totally forgot I had some money in an account and have to pay the balance in 30 days which is fair.
Cheers for the help guys. I lurk around here a lot and this forum is great.0
