Cat has a large nasty cut but worried about vet bills

Hi there,
My cat has been a bit off the last day or so, and when I picked him up he hissed at me. An hour or so ago I noticed he had blood on his back, slightly above his tail.
I managed to get him still and I cleaned it up with some warm water but the blood was still flowing and the cut is quite deep.
I looked online for subsidised vet care but they are all outside of my area (i am in buckinghamshire) and the advice lines are closed. He's in a lot of pain I think but I can't get him to an emergency surgery because of the lack of money.
I am on benefits at the moment after having surgery a couple of months ago. I am totally broke, have about 40£ to hand at the moment. Can't get credit card etc and have no family that can help me. My close friends all have money issues too. The only asset I have is my car and I'm seriously thinking of a log book loan (and I've read the horror stories) just to get my cat to a vet!
Any advice?

Just take your cat to the vet. Don't worry about the money till afterwards, they might be able to offer a payment plan.DFD February 2012

Sorry, my only advice is that you need to get your cat to a vet asap. I appreciate you are skint, but you have a responsibility to your cat. In an ideal word your pet would be insured and this would not be an issue. Call your local vet and see if they will accept weekly payments. Failing that, you need to contact the RSPCA and consider having him re-homed - hard for you but at least he will get the treatment he needs.
ETA: I know that my local Medivet accept payments on a weekly basis and there are lots of Medivets around the country.0 -
I am in Marlow.
Will the vets treat him tonight and I can settle payment later? Whenever hes had treatment before I've always paid there and then so haven't a clue. I've looked on a number of websites and theres no information. The best I could find was a RSPCA clinic in Hillingdon but they are 9-5 and I only noticed the cut at about 5.15.0 -
Do you have a vet in the area you have used before? if so they are your best bet. They have to do something to stop an animal suffering by law IIRC - ring them and ask.0

How the hell can we answer that question? Good grief. Phone them and ask them!!! Explain your predicament, I am sure they will be happy to help.0 -
You would have to phone and ask them steven - different vets will offer different terms for payment.
Do you have a vet that you have a relationship with - even if it's getting the cats annual jabs done? they are much more likely to accept payment in instalments.
Be upfront right from the word go though - don't tell them after the treatments been done.
Good luck

The vet that I usually use doesn't have an out of hours service.
Will find the nearest one to me now and ring them.
Good sign is that he just ate some food from his bowl and jumped up on the sofa afterward.
Apologies to Viktory or however you spell it, just being skint is a new experience to me but yeah good luck at the internet mate.0 -
Steven - try ringing the PDSA for advice - ETA - sorry - cannot find an out of hours advice line for them - hope the vets can help0
