Total cost was £170 which I thought was extreme...I take it that they would have charged less if I had went ino 9-5.

Almost certainly - don't forget all the people there are working unsociable hours.

Glad the cat's sorted though :)

Hi guys - took him to the vets and he is all ok. Had a cat bite that turned into an abcess and they cleaned it up. He seems a lot happier now, they gave him some painkillers too. Was making a lot of noise when driving too the vets tho, yet didn't make a noise all the way home until we got onto the drive!

Total cost was £170 which I thought was extreme...I take it that they would have charged less if I had went ino 9-5. But yeah I managed to pay the bulk of it cos I totally forgot I had some money in an account and have to pay the balance in 30 days which is fair.

Cheers for the help guys. I lurk around here a lot and this forum is great.

phew - yes they charge more for out of hours consultations... glad the cat is ok, and that you found some cash!

It may be worth looking into pet insurance - it can literally be a lifesaver if income is tight.

It may also be worth having a dig round to see if you have anything you can bung on ebay to recoup some of the cost before the end of the month.

BTW - thanks for coming back and updating, so often people come on for advice and are never seen again!

I start my new job next month so hopefully money won't be as tight!

I will def look into pet insurance, any recommendations?

And yeah the eBay idea...the money that I remembered I had was from an eBay sale that was just sitting in an account totally forgot about!
  • There is a big thread on pet insurance at the top of the forum - I have got Halifax for my dog, and it has always paid out fine. You need to look for a true 'for life' policy - I think Axa, petplan and halifax all offer those...

try this number too RSPCA 24 hour Animal Cruelty & Emergency Help Number: 0300 1234 999

No please do not try that number.

That number is clearly for reporting serious and immediate cases of animal cruelty. Calling that number and saying "my cat has got a cut, boohoo" is just wasting their time.

[EDIT] I see the issue is resolved now, but still, that was poor advice from mozzyc.

in my experience, ringing that number to report serious and immediate cases of animal cruely is just a waste of time too...

the PDSA will treat your cat for free but ask a contribution as long as you show you claim benefits(housing benefit i think).
google pdsa pet aid hospitals for their local one which does out of hours.

I looked on their web sire earlier - the OPs town does not appear to be covered by the PDSA. Only certain areas are, sadly.

He got outside about half an hour after we got back home.

Haven't seen him since. He's not in his usual spot of under a hedge. Looked all around with a torch and no sign.

Its normal for cats to do this when they're sick tho, isn't it?

Probably gone to beat up the cat that bit him!

Glad to hear he's okay now, probably just sulking and will turn up later on.
