Congrats on the job Mrs B!
Thanks for the advice on trousers, my thighs are a little too large for kids sizes - I have tried!
Im going to look on asda website see what size their short leg is or I may try and get wunderweb from the fabric store as OH picked me up some jeans from primark earlier and they are around 4 " too long but fit good apart from that. I guess if it doesnt involve sewing I should be okay. Have found a nice pair on ebay but still 6 days too go and even then with post and no more bids its £7.50 and they mat not fit.Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -

To those having a few problems with mould/damp, an awful lot of the problem is our 'sealed' houses.
Double glazing, fitted carpets and no open fireplaces are very different to the homes our grandmas' lived in. Add to that all the extra washing we do, as a child I had 3 outfits, school, church and play. The perfect recipe for damp and mould.
A little ventilation in the warmest part of the day, low heating rather than none and trying to minimise the amount of moisture in the air will help avoid the mildew and mould.
Sometimes it can be cheaper to run the tumble dryer occasionally and turn on the heating low rather than deal with the damage mould can do.

Great stuff on the new job Mrs B, onwards and upwards.0 -
Morning all
Well reset the heating last night and it has to be said our bedroom didnt feel any warmer but the rest of the house is nice and snug at least. Think I will look at tackling our bedroom today.
Am off out today as Im paid :j:j but need to put money in for a bank payment towards overdraft and do a much needed food shop so will go through cupboards in a minute to see what's in there.
Made a conscious decision last night that I will try and pay off a debt by christmas ---- the smallest of my debts is £200 - but will be reduced to £166 by end of the month so fingers crossed I can manage it will just need to find an extra £60 and I'll be good.
My debts look like this
Nationwide - £210
Littlewoods - £200
Credit Union Loan - £450 (this is Owens debt too which makes it worse but he took the money out of a joint account without telling me to pay his bills! - since then have changed name on the account to just mine and have £150 in there that I cant touch until loan is paid off!:mad::mad::mad:
Halifax - £733 (and £75 charges to go on this month that were before I set up the repayment arrangement)
DFS - £941
not so good.
Also spoke to family last night - my dad, mum and sister and they asked what I fancied for Christmas (I know early starters in my family!) and I said money in my 'debt fund' so hopefully I will get a few pennies come Christmas and be able to get another smaller one gone too.
Sop determined to make a start on these.
Stupid though - over the next 3 days I'm paid child benefit, tax credits and maternity and at the end of bill paying and a food shop I will be left with the grand sum of...............£25.:(:( although my bills does include Bens insurance for his football at £25 for the season and he HAS to be wearing shin pads and football boots for the insurance to be in place so managed to find them for £19.99 on sports direct (that's with postage)
Got to laugh or you'd cry wouldn't you. xTime to find me again0 -
Hi Sammy
Errrr...<cough> have you been able to persuade Owen out of buying a car? I/many of the rest of us are concerned that that would do for your careful budgeting in a big way if he does so...0 -
Just popping in to say hello... and I hope you haven't all been struck down with the lurgy that seems to be doing the rounds. I had it all weekend - swollen glands, horrid sore throat, aches and pains and no energy. I know that my friends from all over the country have had it too, so I hope it hasn't hit many of you, cos it's nasty!
Sorry to hear you're all cold.... it's beautiful here, t shirt and flip flops weather (just!). I've had the heating on once, just for half an hour after coming in from being outside for ages, but haven't needed it apart from that, and I REALLY feel the cold, am normally the first to cave in and put the heating on.
DS has managed to get a free ticket to go and watch the practice rounds at the Ryder Cup today. I thought great.... free day out (even though he's having a naughty day off school) and his friend's mum has taken him, which is great. What's not so great is that the security is so tight you're not allowed to take anything in so I've had to give him money to buy food. With a captive audience like that, I know it's not going to be cheap and didn't want him not to have enough money so I'vesent him off with £20! Fortunately his friend's mum is very sensible and Im sure she won't let him but a load of rubbish.
Anyway, I'm off to phone up about another job. There's nothing at all going in my local area even though I live in a city, so I'm resigned to the fact that we're going to have to move, which is really upsetting, but needs must.
Happy Tuesday everyone!Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
Rain, rain, go away..... Grey, miserable and damp here!! I have taken Mardathas good advice and set the central heating to come on morning and evening for a couple of hours, so don't want to be ill as well as skint!0

its quite mild here in Cambridgeshire today, i dont know whether to put my washing out or if it will just hang there and not dry,
i dont have a washer/dryer so its always a problem getting clothes dry in the autumn and winter months, also there is 5 of us, me and OH and 3 young adults, one of whom seems to think it ok to change his clothes twice a day,
also 2 of my boys are job seeking and get £50 a week JSA each, and they will not pay me anything towards their keep, i think if i had tried that trick with my parents i'd have been out on my ear! i'm just too soft for my own good,
still, since i have been meal planning i have saved a fortune,
hope everyone else is well today, i think i'm coming down with something as my throat is so sore , or it could be from shouting at the boys thats done it!:)0 -
ooh Julie..had to re read your post again to make sure I had read it properly that your two boys "wont" pay you any board money...do forgive me if my next comment offends you, but they should be paying you something even if its only a tenner, if there at home most of the day, and using leccie and water and then theres there laundry and food, I know its hard maybe to ask but if they dont get used to paying there way in life they will find it harder later on in life.
my friend has a 27 year old who has never paid anything, and when we added up what he has had over the years it came to £23.000 plus...and now shes not working and is on JSA herself she has to pay out of HER money the extra adult bit the council want for him bieng there think its about £7.50 a week out of her £65.00 jobseekers and he sits there wondering why the phones been cut off and the Sky has been cancelled moaning that shes bieng mean, she showed him the front door last week:j..her lifes better she said but it was her that had allowed it to go on for so long...now she can afford to buy that winter coat she needs badly and her son has had a reality check.
i know its hard for the youngsters nowadays but I dont think they will learn anything if you dont ask for some contribution towards there keep even if its only a fiver, and the way prices of utilities are these days every little helps.
apologies if I have offended you I dont mean to
