    Hi Ceridwen
As usual everyone has left it until now to request things for the end of term, which is Friday, I still don't know if/when I'm losing my duties & so losing £140/160 a month, may be now, maybe Christmas, so I have plans afoot to make it up other ways. Roll on Friday, 4 whole weeks off, woohoo.

Hi Hester, if I lived closer I'd love you to teach me knitting, sewing and crochet. I can knit but it usually gets lopsided as my knit rows are tight and my pearl rows very loose, not sure why - even the lady at Jon Lewi$ couldn't understand why I did it :(

I am an avid lurker on your blog and am always very impressed with your makes :)

Today I shall be calling the council to get the rat man out again :(:( I had a furry visitor one afternoon in my food cupboard but no droppings, gnawings etc, so he put poison outside and it wasn't taken. Yesterday and today I've gone downstairs and seen what I convinced myself yesterday was just the dust that had been there before but today I can see gnawings and droppings on the floor. Grrrr. I've lost a bag of oats, luckily it's mainly tins in there. Grrr.

Well, it will be... after we have traipsed around all of the electrical retailers in our area looking at tellys. Sigh!!

    .

Do your research at the stores for your TV then see how much you can (if any) by using a price comparison. Dont forget something like Topcashback aswell.:D

If you live in an area with a large ethnic population, then do try the Asian grocery shops. Excellent range of fruit and veg to choose from and you will soon realise that you are being over-charged in Tesco et al. Also spices in large packets that cost not much more than the tiny jars you get from the supermarkets.

We made a trip to Levenshulme/Longsight in Manchester. I could not believe how much cheaper the spices were. You are right, a large packet much cheaper than what I was paying for a jar.

For anybody wanting to make jams and chutneys, do start thinking well ahead about getting a good supply of jars and metal lids, otherwise your efforts might be frustrated. A good source is Freecycle, but you can also ask neighbours & work colleagues to start saving them for you. Also suggest to your local supermarkets to start a Recycling Box for them in their local store (although they might be a bit reluctant about this as this will effectively be taking trade away from them). One farm shop we visit has a jam jar recycling box which we've found a useful source in the past.

I've always found previously used commercial jam/pickle jars with their metal lids quite safe to reuse. I just wash them in soapy water, rinse in clean water and put in a low oven for around 10 minutes to sterilise. Incidentally, NEVER put hot jams and chutneys into cold jars or you run the risk of cracking them. Have fun everybody. It's a really satisfying thing to see your rows of home made produce lined up on the kitchen counter for use of the winter months.

I am a 40DD and had such a terrible time finding bras that fitted well. I went into M&S and got their 2 bras for £20. I LOVE them! I'm so supported and my boobs don't fall out when I bend over anymore :rotfl:

Primrose I have a lot of Morrisons value curry jars (empty). Would they be ok to put jam in? Or would I need something with a tighter seal?

I decided to try and save a bit of electricity this morning. Normally I go into the bathroom to get washed/teeth-cleaned/dressed and put the light on as soon as I walk through the door. I get up at 6:15, so it is light at this time of year, so decided to try without the light on. It felt very, very weird. Shows how much I am used to artifical light, even when I don't really need it.

I did however put the light on when putting my make up on. I am 40 tomorrow, so need all the help I can get! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I notice a few people want to knit sew & crochet, try Youtube, there are loads of videos on there that show you how.

It was from YouTube that I've just learned the art of darning socks. Terribly satisfying, thrifty and environmentally saintly.
