Just seen an ad on telly for a new programme coming on BBC where chefs use food disgarded by supermarkets, to cook dishes for a banquet.:j:j

Somebody needs to highlight the total waste of perfectly edible food going on in this country.:mad:

    I can't wait to watch this.:T:T

Well done to the chefs involved.:beer:

Just wondering, because I always buy value mince but is this false economy. I know there is loads of fat coming out of it, but if I paid more, would I get more portions?

I tend to buy lean mince and pad it out with veg/lentils so I get 6+ portions from 500g.

I've made a note to watch this one as well - bet it wont cater very well for vegetarians - but I'll see if it does...

Its "Great British Waste Menu" at 2030 on BBC1 on Wednesday for anyone else interested.

gailey re the hole in the crotch (!) trousers etc are usually made sewing from front waist round to the back waist, then from ankle to ankle..so depending how the seam is torn if you sew accordingly it shouldn't give you a lumpy gusset..I can't believe I just typed that :rotfl:..you know what I mean though :D

    Congrats Annies son, :)

Am too exhausted to think straight atm, its been a busy week. Went shopping with all four kids and my parents a few days ago, and its never a good idea to take my 6 yr old but as he needed shoes and outfits for mums party and farewell thingy it had to be done. Was a nightmare and he really acted up. DD4 got her Lelli Kelli school shoes and was so excited - hasnt wanted to take them off since!! DD15 picked a dress from Miss Selfridge that was £45!!!!:eek::eek: I nearly fainted, thankfully my dad was the one paying and he was encouraging her so I left them to it.
Unfortunately we didnt manage to get shoes for DD15 for school and I ended up out at shops yesterday trying other places - no luck, even ventured to outlet village last night but nothing fits!!
Why are shoes so difficult to find - all the shops have exactly the same style so if they dont fit then none of them fit:mad::mad::mad:

DS6 has played up last few days and is a walking disaster story, today he broke the cat flap which has led to my dad having to strip door to fit new bits!!

Looking forward to the program about waste on Weds will def be tuning in, I miss our old Asda cos they used to have loads of cheap stuff at end of day,the one nearby now is 24hr and never seems to have any good reductions. My whoopsie hunting days are rare now :(

I've read about turkey mince on several posts on this forum yet I've never seen it in the shops

Also, is Costco a Northern company? I've never seen one down here in Dorset.

We don't seem to have many Morrisons around either and the nearest Farm Foods to me is 26miles away too.

I think that Costco is a nationwide company, but it is a discount warehouse club - American style place. It's a bit like Mackro I think but only went there once years ago so not sure. Anyway, people on the shopping threads seem to reckon it is a lot better. You can join if you have your own business or belong to certain professions, nursing, police - a long list of different types. There is a business price and an individual price to join and as individuals it cost us £30 approx for the year. Try googling it to see if there is one near you if you are interested.

I think Morrisons is expanding. Used to be a Northern company but they took over Safeway (I think, or Somerfield) a few years ago and they seem to be all over the country now. I suppose it depends on whether you live in a city or more rural as to how near you would have one. We live in a city and there are two within a couple of miles of each other.

Really miffed. My digital camera has just broken - all it does is take white pictures. Luckily it still worked for the holiday. I was just about to take a load of pictures of items to sell on ebay as tomorrow and Monday are free listing days. Now I have to find an inexpensive, good quality camera as I do use it a lot.

A few years ago Morrisons bought Safeway, so all the Safeway stores became Morrisons stores. Co-op recently took over Somerfield.

I did our supermarket shop this morning, some good deals on beans and tinned toms in Morrisons (branston beans buy 2 get 2 free and BOGOF on 4 packs of tinned toms for £2.99 so just over 37p each but looked a bit better quality than value ones) nearly fainted at the checkout but haven't actually done a "big" food shop for 3 weeks and needed quite a bit of stuff. Should now survive with our veg box delivery plus shops for bread and milk until next payday.
