Wasn't it?
I've been very lucky in life with the friends I have made - it's just a shame they're all so far away.
It's not easy to make friends in a new area, when your children are late teens/early 20's. And when due to private landlords, you've had to move 4 times in 10 years (although settled now, in council house....I hope)
The job I lost back in January that I'd been in for three years was for a cancer charity and although the volunteer ladies I worked with were lovely, most of them were 20 years (or more) older than me and a thousand times wealthier. Their idea of having to watch what they spent was only having funds for just the one cruise this year, although things were never so tight that they weren't able to holiday abroad twice in the same year too.
They were horrified to learn I hadn't had a holiday of any description for 10 years, and, really, didn't know how I coped. I used to say to them - if you haven't got the money, you can't go on holiday, but they really seemed to struggle with the whole concept of being that hard up......a bit like Mr Cameron!!
Still, I'm not grumbling.....I had a long weekend away 2 years ago :rotfl:Aug11 £193.29/£240

He is still having problems with numbers though, and that is annoying him. But he has wolfed his lunch down today, and asked for his tea to be brought into him as well (he needs to have Mum cook it all from scratch because he is allergic to most of the universe!), so that's good, but the hopsital is being annoying about when Dad can take his pills. Through years and years of trial and error, we know that he needs to take some pills before he eats, and some directly after he eats. Well, the battle axe of a nurse on his ward, won't let him take his pills when we know they will work best for him because it doesn't chime with their medicine regime. I think part of it is that Dad can't tell them clearly which ones he needs when, but he told Mum that he could remember the drawer they were in at home and he is going to try and remember which ones he takes out and when and write it down. He is going to use it as an exercise for his memory. I wish I could give him a hug from 200 miles away.Second purse £101/100

Beautiful flowers Hippeechiq. What a lovely friend you have.
Our butchers is closing down today. Personal reasons, but hubby thinks it might be due to health from what he overheard the butcher saying. So, we've stocked up on some stuff to put in the freezer. Big chunk out of my grocery budget, but needs must.
I've got mum coming to visit today for the week. She lives in London so we don't see each other very often. I was hoping to take her to a car boot near us as she hasn't been to one for years and she loves a good browse, but the weather looks like it's going to be wet for the next few days. Bloomin' typical!
I've had to change our usual meal plans as mum doesn't eat curries and the like, or cheese and she always has meat. We often have curry, chilli or bolognese made with quorn, macaroni cheese, quiche with lovely cheeses in it, lol, so all that's out! Still, I'll be making sure that she has some good homecooked food. She used to cook when I was growing up, but now she lives on pre-packaged frozen stuff.
Got to do some baking this morning. Hobnobs and cake.
She's been buying a lemon drizzle cake from Asda, so she asked me if I could make one. Might also see if the in-laws have some spare courgettes so I can make chocolate courgette cake which is yummy!0 -
tana ramsey's lemon drizzle cake on bbcgoodfood is lovely and so easy to make0

Upstairs where he is, is spotless its just down here that needs a good scrubDS3 won't have the hoover on and it badly needs doing,so I can do this while he takes him out.
Between him not going to sleep until 3 am most nights and DS2 needing medicine in between I'm knackered!
Need to get some jamming/dehydrating done but need to gather up the strength first my bones are just too tired :rotfl:
Hope everyone has a great day0 -
Hello to everyone,
Just got back from our fantastic hols (paid for by in-laws) and we had such a brilliant time. Wish I could go back. We were in a fantastic cottage with no neighbours for at least a mile. There was a working vegetable garden there and we made friends with the gardener. He's given us four bags of vegetables to take home with us all home grown. :A
I'm very proud of myself as I only spent £20 the whole week as were self-catering and brought our own food that we already had in our house.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'
Proud Mummy to two gorgeous miracles.:j0
