Calley, I hope that your husband will recover soon and that your life will return to some semblance of normally.
    You must be shattered.

....stuck the lot on monthly direct debit ....Is that one way to go possibly?
Speaking personally, I find I spend the month robbing Peter to pay Paul so DDs are not that helpful. As an example, I allow £10 for lekkie, £5 gas, various insurance/ car related/ what-have-yous in my monthly budgeting but the first bill to come thru the door gets paid form that whole pot. Effectively each little bit helps pay the other whereas if they all went out via the bank, we'd have nothing left to shop with

Woo hoo! Today is beginning to look up! Not only has the annoying git got the afternoon off, but just heard from Mum that Dad is making steady improvements each day. He is still having problems with numbers though, and that is annoying him. But he has wolfed his lunch down today, and asked for his tea to be brought into him as well (he needs to have Mum cook it all from scratch because he is allergic to most of the universe!), so that's good, but the hopsital is being annoying about when Dad can take his pills. Through years and years of trial and error, we know that he needs to take some pills before he eats, and some directly after he eats. Well, the battle axe of a nurse on his ward, won't let him take his pills when we know they will work best for him because it doesn't chime with their medicine regime. I think part of it is that Dad can't tell them clearly which ones he needs when, but he told Mum that he could remember the drawer they were in at home and he is going to try and remember which ones he takes out and when and write it down. He is going to use it as an exercise for his memory. I wish I could give him a hug from 200 miles away.

Glad to hear Dad is still perking up:)

Re the pills regime - I've long since learnt a motto in life "Don't go THROUGH the obstacle - go ROUND it". It took me many a year - and a particular circumstance I won't go into - to learn that sometimes its best rather than hitting ones head on a brick wall to find the way round the side of said brick wall. In this case - the member of nursing staff is the brick wall and I wonder whether your mother could just "go round the side of her" by slipping Dad his pills surreptitiously at a time when "brick wall" isnt looking;):D.

I've learnt by now not to waste my "energy" trying to convince someone who is refusing to BE convinced. Some people just wont respond to commonsense - phrase it whatever way you might - hence the "going round the brick wall" strategy....;):D

    Hi everyone,
Congrats to all the exam passers and good luck to those who didn't get what they wanted, sometimes this can turn out to be a blessing in disguise. No news on the step-son's results, so thinking they might not be looking too good :-(
I'm plodding along being 7 months pg, went to funeral today, but didn't feel like going back to the wake afterwards, miserable day, just wanted to come home and nestle up with the family.
I have to psyche myself up for Saturdays at the moment as its the day I have to do the changeover at the holiday cottage I look after, 6 hours max to clean it top to bottom, do all the laundry and change all the beds (sleeps 6) so am usually exhausted after that. On the plus side we're never short of a partially used loo roll (can't leave them out for guests, only new ones) and people often leave random bits in the fridge they don't want to transport home. Kids love coming to see what if anything's been left and asking what I'm going to make out of it. Last week it was anchovy fillets and beef dripping, any suggestions n what I can do with that???? It never ceases to amaze me the stuff people on hols buy and don't use up or take home, some poeple leave fridge half full of waitflowers food, still makes me be a bit imaginiative.

Miserable here in Dorset, feels almost Autumnal,
Hope everyone keeping warm and well,
    Vicky

I'm vegetarian these days - but anchovies instantly suggests either one of the toppings for a pizza on the one hand or tapenade on the other hand:).

I think it may have just been the fact that when I handed the application to her I had red/pink dreds/matts, a rather large amount of facial piercings, wearing a blue polka dot tea dress, purple tights (with holes), doc marten boots giving my ds a piggy back. . . . I only wanted to push it through her letterbox not to actually speak to her but she saw me coming down the path.

YOu'd probably have been straight in no problem with a chance on the allotments I had a chance at then - as long as you could have confirmed that you do things organically:D:rotfl::rotfl:.

Hmmm...right in that case the "criteria" for that particular set of allotments obviously includes "looks conventional".

In that case - time for a Sunday walkaround on all the local allotments and check out the "dress code" amongst prospective fellow allotmenteers....
    - yes...I'm serious.....:)

Personally - I'm an arch-pragmatist...."What do they (whoever "they" might be......) want?" and then I sit down and think whether whatever-they-want chimes with the way I actually am myself - and, if not, whether I could/would want to adapt to be what they want. If what they want goes "right against the grain" - then lookaround time for somewhere more suitable to someone like myself. If I can see that I'm "a suitable match" - then let them know that I am....

Thats just me - and my way of operating. Quite often it means that I count myself out - as I can see that the group/firm/whatever concerned is too different to me and I don't basically agree with their way of operating - well...at least I've made sure that I dont waste any more time hitting my head against a brickwall.

THE bigbigbig criteria hereabouts is "Are you organic?" - with the 2nd one being "Are you willing to operate in a communal sorta way?". If you are - then a multitude of stuff gets forgiven/overlooked - and we couldnt give a darn whether you look like something out of the Rocky Horror Show or have got twinset and pearls on...but things are obviously going to differ in different locations - so I guess its "horses for courses".

    Sadly know the feeling.

Husband was released from hospital yesterday. He was admitted last friday.

Looks like he had a seizure:( so he now has surrender his driving licence again. Just as we where starting to look around for cars for him.

I have felt so tired I could cry at anything and have been suffering from loads of headaches.

And fallen off the OS bandwagon. Spent loads of money including fuel over the last week:(

Did try to be good by getting bottles of water and freezing them to take with me.

But is no fun being away from home 15 hours a day.

    Yours

    Calley

Are you in a position where you could just lock the door/take the phone off the hook and "chill out" and forget the World for a weekend? I dont know if you have children and will therefore have to "keep on going" regardless or no.....so apologies if that simply aint possible because you do.....

I know when I've gone through hard patches before now that I've just done that...ie that phone off hook/curtains closed/refuse to answer door and chill out with music/candles/etc and thought "Sometimes the World is more than I can cope with - so for right now - I've 'signed out' and wont even try".... It really does help if its possible to do that....

Don't et me wrong i've been in this situtation so please don't think i'm being condescending in any way shape or form. Apparently, if ound this oput on the DFW section, that companies are NOT allowed to call you throughout the day, during work hours or unsociable times. So i tried this with natwest/ntl/barclays and guess what its worked, now they wish to contact me its only between 5:30pm and 6pm, as i stated after 6pm its dinnertime, bath and bed. Worked so far with us. Not sure if thats any use to you, but you could try it.

:) Thank you everyone for all you lovely messages of congratulations to Ghislaine - much appreciated!. . . . our silly grins are still in place! :)

We had a tremendous rain and wind storm here last night which has stripped a lot of leaves off the trees and hedges. Hate to say it but its looking like Autumn is just around the corner. And its made the bumper crop of hawthorn berries and rosehips very noticeable - according to country lore - its a sign of a hard winter to come :(
The nights are starting to draw in so we will try and enjoy the last of the summer days while they last. :)

Not had the best of weeks - along with many of you it seems, so big :grouphug: to all who need them

I may have said before, that all my family and friends live 200 miles away in Norfolk/Suffolk, and during low periods, I miss them more than I can say.

This afternoon, I get a knock at the door, and there stands a lady holding theseAFOTO-0118.jpg

Sent to me from one of my best friends in Norfolk who I haven't seen for the last 8 years (due to lack of funds on both parts ) but who knew I was feeling low, and it is, without doubt, one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

I don't mind telling you that it brought a lump to my throat :)

Hippeechiq those are fabulous, make sure you can see them or smell them wherever you are in the house, to keep that good feeling in place. You must be a good friend to get that, in return from your friend. X
