    Bad and good news...

Bad news in a way because the cost of clothes and shoes will go up. I'm already cringing at the thought of having to buy all the children new winter shoes and coats. If food prices are going up.. AND clothes/shoes prices are going to rocket... geeshh...
Given that some of the richest nations are now in recession and that unemployment is rising, who, apart from Saudis, will be able to afford China's new prices?

Maybe we'll learn to live without all the gadgets. I'd be lost without my computer though.

sammy_kaye - its lovely to have you back on the thread again:j I do so hope your good luck arrives soon - you're definitely owed some.

Fingers crossed for my DS2 please - he's applied for his first job - part-time in Morrisons, he wouldn't be able to cope with FT just yet, he's 18 and just finished college and is on the mild end of the autistic spectrum. We worry a lot about his future but he's done so well to get this far, we just need to 'let go' a bit and try not to mollycoddle him so much.

I need to ring the dentist too - lost a huge filling yesterday:( could do without a big bill atm but it will have to be done.

In haste - dont know how far you want to go/can afford to go re this temp you know....

maybe you could have "just cleared out a relatives kitchen cupboards - as they're no longer with us ...and theres loads of tins/packets that arent your sort of thing - so if you have a use for them.....";)

(note to self: "ceridwen - you are never going to get to heaven at this rate - that makes the second little white lie you've just suggested.....")

don't suppose anyone living in Jamandas area knows of any local "resources" of groups giving away food?:)

Oohh - sending lots of ((hugs)) around this morning to all those in need! x

Miserable weather here today - was gorgeous yesterday. Meant to be rainy now for the rest of the week. Still, other than a trip to the library today we don't need to *do* anything/ go anywhere. Feel a board game or two and a carpet picnic and then a DVD this afternoon may be the way to go...

I like the idea of growing another row, it would work well unless you had a big family. Re rich people, I take great comfort from the belief that they come back in their next life as street people in Bombay or farmers in China. :D

Havent posted on this thread before, so hope you dont mind, but felt I had to say good luck to Jamanda, and i am sure this lady will appreciate what you are doing. It amazing how on the outside no-one can see the problems and hardship some are facing, but it just takes a friendly face and kind words for the walls to crumble. I hope this lady gets all the help she deserves as there are so many takers in our society that think they deserve more than what they are entitled to, and there are some who should get more but get nothing. Did I miss a posting - but where abouts are you? If we had your location someome with local knowledge could maybe help more.

    Lucielle,
I can sympathise re: washer...ours has been on the blink for 2 weeks now...we're in rented accomm and it's a slow process to get it fixed. I've done a load this morning and mopped the floor where it has leaked!! Everything seems to break at the same time...eeek!

Hope your little one is ok.

Must be the season for broken washing machines, mine is on the blink as well; it is making a horrendous noise when spinning, the bearings are going, got the repair man out and luckily it is still under warranty, so will be getting a replacement. Apparently Wh!rlp00l have a bad batch which are breaking down after approx 9 months, but they haven't done a call back.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

Does that meet with approval? - ie to keep this "installment" going till then and start in on the next one on 22 October - ie when people have had a chance to take a look at the package of Cuts and figure out what the impact on them personally is likely to be.

Sounds ideal ceridwen, hopefully any one wishes to read / join in will be able to without feeling too daunted IYSWIM. i'm dreading that day, can see the cuts now. My friends father has had his work cut already from five to four days. May go down to three in December. So now my friends mother (his parents separated last year) has to either pay more towards the mortgage or sell the family home. Tough times for us all here.

elona no need to apologise, i would be fuming with the its going with your house move. You just want to feel secure and at the moment everything is up in the year. Complain, moan, laugh, cry, whatever were here to offer support, advice and a laugh. We'll be hear to listen to you x

hi sammy-kaye,suzy and vicky! how are you both? congrats on the baby sammy!
jamanda that's a shocking state of affairs, the poor woman. hope CAB can sort her out with lots of advice and assistance.

I'm off to pay the dreaded CT today, meant to pay it last week but i was so wet i knew i'd fall over. so going to pay it today, go to the market to see any bargains, pop to my sisters then over my mates for dinner. So busy day for me.

Better get off, prob back on later if i haven't falling asleep.:o

Reading this has just put me off my lunch..food prices up by 58% in the past three years.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1303418/The-food-prices-58--Cost-groceries-rocketed-2007.html

Hope your dad will be alright Crickett.
I was just saying on another thread, how marvellous some reporters are...one this morning was seriously passing on the news of prices rising faster than at any other time but wages are not keeping up. Fine so far, then came out with the absolutely stunning conclusion that this would mean people had less money to spend....isn't that a revelation! I am so glad he told me, or I might not have worked that out for myself dozey.gif
I don't understand all the lingo or exactly how it works, but I well recall years back, the government used the inflation figures in September to set the benefit rises the following April. Ever since, the news has ALWAYS had a bulletin extolling the wonders of 'inflation drops for the first time in six months' around the second Monday in September. What a coincidence

Sorry am being a grouch today
First & foremost, you are NOT being a grouch. Everyone has to release a bit of steam now & again & obviously it's your valve that's most likely to blow right now. Don't fret! We'll just stand back & wait till it's safe to enter the *Ginny-zone again :D *enter other name/s as appropriate as it looks like it's going to be one of those days :rotfl:((HUGS)) to you, & for Everyone I think x
I can sympathise with the trials of being wary with an elderly rellie :o Me muvva is becoming more demanding & reminds me of that stage toddlers go through, when they are only concerned on how a situation will affect them personally. She has always been a reserved kind of person but now states her opinion in no uncertain terms & often loud enough for others to hear. As her comments are mostly about people's appearances or ethnicity, I'm seriously considering driving a digger around so I can dig a hole & bury myself with embarrassment :( And don't get me started on other family :wall:

I've got a :j Found out there's a Lite User tariff on my PAYG that effectively halves the costs of calls & texts & the confirmation of the switch-over came about 20mins ago :D I only carry a mobile in case the car breaks down or something so this is ideal for me..simple things definitely please my simple mind & at times like this, I wouldn't have it any other way :p

Thanks for understanding. I spoke to EA and they now think 3rd of September may be possible instead of a vague mid September date.

We saw solicitor yesterday and signed contract, wrote a cheque for the deposit and she has sent a fax to vendor's solicitor pointing out we only paid the price we are offering on the understanding it was a "quick sale" and we have told everyone right from the start we needed to move in August.

With the news of cuts in October to look forward to and the forecast of a cold September and a severe winter, the faster we can all feel we have stores of basic food ingredients, blankets, hot water bottles, thermos for hot water and even candles or a torch - the better.
