What a great idea must remember that one thanks Hester.
I've just had a quick scoot round the garden..wish I hadn't :rotfl:Looks like I've got a busy day ahead!
I always cram in as much as I can as I feel its good 'practise' to know how much I can produce in the space we have available if god forbid it was all we had..
So it works both ways when I share it around,I get to work out how much I can glean from our small space and the neighbours and my mum and dad are helped out too
I'm looking forward to my tomatoes finally turning red now, they've been so late this year but are loaded0 -
We go to the farm shop for our pots and eggs
Pots have gone up from £2.50p to £5.50p a bag to say I was shocked was an understatement. The eggs there work out to be 10p each for 'happy' eggs and at the min we go through at least 60 a week
I cannot afford and fruit or veg from there to be honest so we buy ours from wherever I go shopping that week
Its a gloomy day here. NO chance of doing any washing so the pile shall continue to mount
Wishing you all a happy Saturday, sending hugs and positive thoughts to those who need themMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
I can understand the price of spuds going up. Mine have been a disaster this year, and I have taken good care of them, too. I emptied a pot yesterday and got about two pounds out. Got six pounds out of the same size pot last year, with less seeds in to start with. My earlies never came off at all, and I also appear to have had a few eaten by slugs. If the farmers are having as good a summer as we have, then I'll be expecting to pay a lot more for produce this autumn. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Just popping in to say - went in Chinese supermarket in Liverpool on Thursday -3kg bag of bicarb was £3.10. Smaller 100g bags 30p. Stated on pack that it was food grade as well. HTH
Hugs to allWhen you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

*Should* being the operative word there, but we still get a few cold calls. We also keep getting calls for the people who had our phone number before us which is really irritating.
Any calls that show as International on our phone, we do not answer. We have a list of nuisance numbers next to the phone, which only rings 5 times before going on to voicemail.
We figure that if it is someone who really wants to talk to us, that they would leave a message.
For the rude barstewards who swear at us, if we do answer, I have a police whistle next to the phone. Lets say that their ears may be ringing for awhile and not our telephone.

One of my neighbours loves when he gets a cold caller at his door despite a neighbourhood watch sticker on it telling them not to bother.
He spends at least 20 minutes asking them every question about their item or service. We all know he does this and it's funny to see the person trying to end the conversation and get away from him." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Ummm...<cough> i loathe coldcallers myself...but....errr...I have read that blowing a whistle down the phone at someone can cause permanent hearing problems....so...ummm...I wouldnt do it myself...as I've had a few "words" with coldcallers before now myself...but I understand that they are possibly under a lot of pressure from their employer and it wouldnt sit right with me to risk the health of someone who was just a "cog in the chain".
I think 'tis wise to just put the phone straight down and swear oneself and forget it..0 -

Relating to this - I tend to think the best way to deal with the fact that someone has tried to "do a salesman act" on me and I have the right not to be bothered by salesmen on the one hand and the fact that they are just trying to earn a living on the other hand is to just say "No thank you" and shut the door immediately. That particular person will know better than to call on me again and I've had as little of my time wasted as possible. I've achieved my objective of "shutting them up" in the quickest way I can - so that will do.0 -

To change the subject entirely. I have something that may be useful to y'all. I have found a way of dealing with these nuisances who ring you up and want your grant to install another 2 metres thickness of loft insulation and cavity wall insultation or whatever. You tell them your number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service, and they reply that it doesn't apply to them. I don't know whether that is true or not. Often they are rude.
I tried this when they rang today, and it got rid of them nicely. Here is what you do:
1. Put on your poshest voice. (I don't need to. I've already got one.)
2. When they bring up the subject of loft insulation. Tell them: "Can't be done, I'm afraid. We can't have a loft, as such. It would obscure the 15th century carvings attached to the roof beams."
3. If they broach the subject of cavity wall insulation, tell them: "I'd love to insulate the walls. This place is dashed difficult to keep warm in the winter. But they won't let us drill holes in the walls. This house is listed as an historic building, you see. We're restricted in what we can do."
They should hang up before you start giving them chapter and verse about the house..."It was built for John Tiptoft, the Lord High Constable of England during the reign of Edward IV, you know...hello?...hello?"
Cracked these phone calls! We have caller ID and an answerphone. Any No we don't recognise goes onto the machine and we pick up if we want to talk. Usually they hang up before the machine's message is finished.
Now, how to deal with the b***s at the door!0 -
