I must admit hate smell of vingar too but I coped hubby whinged i was stinking out hous emango quite potent as few spices, started making chutney last xmas its dead easy as made delias xmas chutney find white wine or cider vinigar not as nasty smell.
I dont even like chutney its for hubby and xmas presents plus dad likes it.

Sounds like good deal with allotment.
The council websitre says no vacancies but wheneevr I walk past our local theres visably abandoned plots trying to get hold of parish council and discussed with mate getting lareg plot and shareing it sharing the workload and veg if we can get one as they live in a flat so no garden.

Can you keep chickens on an allotment then.

    rained here on a off.
Messy play club kids had fun very stressful.found plum tree on our estate so off to pick when rain stops mostly greengages round here so only out for another few weeks, found victoria plums not found damsons yet all these different varieties very confusing as they look very different to shop brought plums.

Want to pick tonnes of blackberries too but wheneevr I take the kids they get bored so never pick many just need a few hours by myself.

Become fixated with stockpiling fruit in freezer.
taken some chicken out to attempt a chicken kebab for hubby and made cornish pasties other day they were lovley.
I think we can last food wise until 15th as tonnes in freezer.

right off to pick plums, secretly bin old broken toys and do lunch.

I don't really mind the smell of chutney cooking, so I can't help there!

Gailey, on our allotments you can't keep chickens and also you can't plant trees (eg for fruit) but you can have fruit bushes etc and anything else you want to grow. There should be a waiting list (there is a long one for ours) so be persistent and keep on asking. Subletting/sharing with a friend is a great idea!

It seems the rich are suffering dreadfully at this time of crisis. LINK Or at least their egos are.

    Duh!

Thanks for this, Charis. It is bad for them, because, unlike ordinary folk with ordinary sized egos, these poor darlings have lived the high life, and now, mathematics being a great leveller, they have been brought back to reality. There is a word for this type of thing: perdition.

Still, I had to chuckle at that woman who is bemoaning her lot because she is ONLY on £500 a week. ("Sometimes I only make £250. Boo hoo!") When was the last time you met a writer who was on £500 a week? She should swallow her pride and get herself a proper job.

Of course, they will all expect the rest of us to bail them out.

I popped into Mr M's on my lunchbreak and picked up their buy 1 get 2 free pasta so that's 3kg of pasta for £1.95, the offer is until 15th August so I'll probably pick up a few more packs whilst I can. They also had dolmio sauce, 3 jars for £1.37, generally I do make my own sauces from scratch but like to have a couple of jars in for emergencies (nothing in the fridge or feeling poorly and not wanting to cook) when I just stir it through cooked pasta and if I have any shove some grated cheese on top. I'm going to Mr.Ts after work for milk and cheese as Mr.Ms did not have as good offers on these at the moment. I feel lucky to have access to three different supermarkets close to work (plus home bargains, poundland and poundstretcher) and I can easily get to all of the supermarkets in the car from my house, the only one we don't have is a Waitrose and I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway

I've just done my weekly shop in Morrisons, I'm still using my £5 vouchers from the Sun newspaper:). I picked up that offer on pasta. Its good. Didnt you buy any of the 50p milk lambanana?

I was in there on Sunday and sugar was 98p:eek:. Today I looked and its on special offer at 69p. I bet they raised it to put back on special offer at a near normal price!

I've gotten in quite a bit of flour and bread mixes, dated to January 2011. Biscuits don't really worry us, we could live without them.
Tough times loom ahead, for many, it seems.

Feeling a lot poorer at the moment as our cat was attacked by a dog that had got into our back garden.
The dog has been in our garden 3 times in the last two weeks.
The owners did donate some money to the vets bills but not even half ,they don't have any at the moment apparently but neither do we and it isn't anything we did that caused the problem ,while they have neglected to secure their garden and have almost no control over their dog!
Anyway poor old cat is not happy ! The vet thought we would not get a penny from the owners so I suppose at least that is a positive result.

Just wanted to say Congratulations to katiegizmo's OH :T:j:T:j - it's such a relief, isn't it.

My OH started his new job last Thursday and is still finding his feet. Already he is so much happier and upbeat (usually he's a grumpy old sod :D).

Fingers crossed for all those with interviews coming up.

    Congrats Katiegizmo.

I've just picked 4oz of blackberries from the garden, the first this year. If I were to freeze them instead of eating them now, do I just put them straight in the freezer or wash first? Wondering if the extra water would make them mushy when defrosted.

Should have put jeans and fleece on and might have managed to get a few more but am now covered in scratches. Only went out for a few mins though, so quite pleased.

I prefer to freeze as they are, you can wash them once defrosted again.

    Been a good girl today.

Picked up some johnson seeds from wilkinson now 75% off rather than 50% . Bought some on tuesday at 50% off.

And while cooking tea made up two rhubarb crumbles with donated rhubarb.

Husband was bit put out. He asked if I wanted custard with them. I had to tell him they where for the freezer:rotfl:

Bought the pasta from Morrisons and picked up a bag of potatoes seconds 10kg for £2.50 yesterday. So we should be ok for a few days.

    Yours

    Calley
