The most effective form of contraception?

What in everyone's opinion is the most effective form of contraception besides being sterilised? I had a coil for 3 years but it slipped and made me very ill so I had it taken out about 6 months ago. What else could I use and whats everyone elses experiences? Do they still have family planning clinics in the UK or do you have to go to the doctors now?

Sorry black-saturn, on a more serious note, there are still Family Planning Clinics, I have a few friends who get the contraceptive injection and are happy with that!
If you phone your GPs surgery, they should be able to give you a contact number for the family planning.

Abstinence, that's what I was going to say.
On a more serious note I was never completely happy with the pill and so we progressed to condoms which we bought as we prefer a make you can't get from family planning, we then deceided to use the rhythme method as we felt we could live with the concequences if our timing wasn't quite right. I feel you need to deceide for yourself why you want to use contraception is it so you don't get pregnant or so you don't get pregnant now. This could have quite a major inpact on your final decision.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

A lot will depend on your age and if you want any more children or are just spacing them out. By that I mean if you are just spacing it would not totally wreck your plans if you got pregnant a bit earlier. In that case I would get him to use a condom. If you are over 35 and not smoking the new lower oestrogen types of pill are good because they can see you through peri-menopause as well, brands like Mercilon and Femodette if you can take them.
If you are going down the pill route watch your body for signs that a given pill does not agree with you. I was prescribed Loestrin 20 (because it is cheap) but it was far too androgenic (not sure if that is the right word) for me. I had serious seborrhoeic dermatitis and was bad tempered. I was changed to Mercilon and was fine.0 -
Well I'm 36, my bf is 41, we have 3 children 16, 11 and 9 and we definately do not want any more children. I smoked until 3 months ago but I don't now.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

What about him getting a vasectomy then. :eek:0 -
Now I KNOW he wouldnt do that. Even though I know it will be the quick and easiest option.chatta wrote:What about him getting a vasectomy then. :eek:2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

How about wearing him down with some old fashioned nagging? That's my plan after my third baby is born
And the beauty of it is, if the plan doesn't work, you just carry on 'til it does!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Why not, are they his children you have, I mean that nicely. If it's because he just doesn't want a bit of pain etc, then it's mean to expect you to take chemicals etc. Tell him to use a condom then :rotfl: Yes I know they are yuk, but think there isn't any nice contraception us girls have to use or take either.:rolleyes:0
