The old hospital is still open and is a small museum about the hospital now. Think it cost us around £1.50 each to get and it's not very big but was interesting (if you like that kind of thing). It felt like quite a walk to get up there but then I was 6 months pregnant at the time so maybe it's not as hard as it seems. But fantastic views when you get up there though.

  • Hi monkeygirl31

Could you give a bit more info about Sygun please as the tripadvisor reports are very varied. How long were you in there?

We were there all afternoon, there are lots of different caverns to walk through with your tour guide. You can also pan for fools gold, which was a big hit with the kids. It was interesting but not as good as Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Blaenau Ffestiniog

I also found a 20% off voucher for Portmerion via Google.

Entry to Portmeirion is half price after 3.30pm (it's open until 7.30 pm). Between 2nd November and 1st March you can get in free, but this probably doesn't help anyone going their on their Summer hols!

When I went there it struck me how much smaller it was than I'd expected and I'd imagine four hours is more than enough for most people so if you can go at 3.30pm you can save yourself a few quid.

The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

Go onto http://brochures.visitwales.co.uk/brochures.php and browse the brochures. You can also get some posted to you and these usually have some nice extra discounts in them. You might find some extra info on places to visit as well.

WOW thank you everyone for your replies. I leave tomorrow to go to Porthmadog and I think the first thing we will do is go to Black rock sands and maybe get some fish and chips or something. Tuesday is Portmerion I think and maybe Wednesday we might go to Snowdonia. Someone mentioned an old hospital is this abandoned or has it been turned into something else?

    Thanks again x

Ah the quarry hospital in Llanberis! An interesting palce & I still like to visit even though I've been hundreds of times with my granny when I was younger! Makes you very thankfull for the NHS - believe me!!! Well worth a visit - its located in the Padarn Country Park...lovely walks & beautiful scenery.

Can I revive this thread from last year?

I've just booked us 6 nights hotel accommodation dotted around Wales 3 nights in the north (Snowdon region) and 3 nights south wales West and Cardiff. I've booked the brochures from the website described above, but would love some MSE recommendations about places to go and things to do.

We have National Trust membership if that helps keep costs down. 2 adults and 1 teenager - we all like adventure / history / outdoorsy things - Snowdon hike is a must / wild-life / culture / night time show (especially welsh choir somethings) / cathedrals / castles / beaches / caves. We're not fussed on middle of the cities - shops but have booked one night in Cardiff so we can say we've been - but we're on the outskirts. Eating out we always 'adventure' picnic for lunch, evenings we like "rustic" (i.e. cheap!!!).

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

If you're into history I'd recommend a visit to the town of Conwy. The obvious attraction is the castle but there are a few other places to visit including Plas Mawr (an Elizabethan town house), Aberconwy House (a medieval merchant's house) and the smallest house in Britain. You can also explore sections of the town walls, although some parts no longer exist or are closed off.

The castle and Plas Mawr are both run by CADW and you can buy a combined ticket which works out cheaper than paying seperately. Aberconwy House is run by the National Trust. Entry to the town walls is free.

Nearby you've also got Bodnant Garden which is a National Trust place so you'd get in free with an NT Card - http://www.bodnantgarden.co.uk/

If you like caves then try the Great Orme Copper Mines in Llandudno - http://www.greatormemines.info/

St. John's Methodist Church in Llandudno has regular male voice choir concerts in the summer, as does St. Mary's church in Betws-y-Coed.
