Need help for my holiday to Wales

Hi everyone,

I am going to Wales on Monday 26th till the Wednesday. We are staying at Porthmadog travelodge. On the Tuesday we are going to Portmerion, however, we dont know what to do the rest of the time. We were thinking of going on the Snowdon railway but at £25 return we might not as its quite alot.

Has anyone else got any suggestions as to what we could do?
Also has anyone ever been to Gypsywood, you can go there on Tesco vouchers and I wondered if it was any good?

Thank you in advance.
x

Depends on what your interests are: the castles of Harlech and Caernarfon are pretty damn fine; if you like activities then http://www.glasfryn.co.uk/ is good; beaches all around are amazing but notably Morfa Harlech & Barmouth beach; oldest church in Wales at Llandanwg in the sand dunes just outside of Harlech (doesnt have electricity so its carols by candlelight at Xmas); http://www.greenwoodforestpark.co.uk/ especially if you have kids; as previously mentioned the Ffestiniog railway is nice but still a little pricey; a walk through Beddgelert is always nice tracing the grave of the Prince's dog http://www.beddgelerttourism.com/gelert/.

In all I love this area - maybe try http://www.snowdonia-wales.net/

    Hope that helps a little
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

It is fantastic travelling up to the top of Snowdon on the train though, the views during the journey are only exceeded by those at the top. Breathtaking.

Thanks for replies. The only reason I dont say what I like is I dont mind what I do really and I dont want to single myself down to one type of activity. I like beaches and castles. Can anyone tell me where is nice to eat around this area. I like nice pub food, pizza, or posh food. Does that help?

    Thanks

there is a luxury hotel called Castell Deudraeth kind of in the grounds of portmerion, adjacent, never been but drooled over it last time !!! looked a nice place for an outdoor lunch. on the backs of our portmerion ticket there was an offer that you could have free entry to portmerion if you ate at castell Deudraeth. (we paid for portmerion entry on tesco deals tokens dont know if you can still do that??)

we went to greenwood forest park on the tesco deals at the time, it was brilliant for young kids.

we parked up at gypsy wood, but to be honest the view from the car park looked like shabby and messy, a bit tired and in need of a revamp, so we backed out of our plans (only my opinion) ......

    hope this helps
