however, was just looking at my tickets and although i flew out late friday evening, my return flight is first thing friday morning!

tbh i dont know of any company that does package holidays of 6 days
That's actually 8 days in Travel Agent speak. You have 7 nights which is how it will have been advertised.

Arriving before you leave is common on charter airlines where the aircraft are based abroad so your flight home will become the outward flight for the next set of tourists

Flea72 has only had 6 nights in the accommodation, not 7. It is Thursday today, not Friday.

Although, given the flight times, if Flea said "I want to go away for a week", then technically they HAVE been out of the UK for a week.

it maybe that the airline in question originates in the country you are going to. have seen it before with Greece and Cyprus.
    so the plane will ...

    Depart Greece 0100
    Arrive London 0300

    Depart London 0500
    Arrive Greece 1100

did the agent not recap the times to you when booking?

i would check all your paperwork that was given to you at the time of booking. if that states different you may have a reason to complain to the agent who booked the holiday.

olympic holidays often have flight times like these.

as others have said.... the accom was booked for 7 nts but you actually only got 6nts there.this is common practice. it shoud have been explained to you at time of booking.

the accom hasnt been booked for 7 nts, thats what im trying to get at, its been booked for 6

yes, they gave the times, but if someone says you fly out on the 9th at 11pm and return on the 16th at 1am, you dont usually have to work out what day of the week the return flight falls on - you would expect that if you flew out overnight on a friday, you would return overnight on a friday. we just assumed (our fault i realise now) that the 16th would be the overnight flight on the friday, not the overnight flight on the thursday

if ive asked for a week, i expect to be on holiday for nigh on 7 x 24hrs. you dont expect a weeks holiday to be 6 x 24hrs

so leave uk friday arrive hotel saturday. leave hotel thursday, arrive home friday - to me it still doesnt add up to a week - i make that 6 nights, but 7 days (seeing as the flight left the uk at 22.30 and our return flight leaves at 00.20)

so who has made the error? me for thinking a weeks holiday would give me 7 days, not 5 full days, and a few hours either side of midnight on the remaining 2? or the tour operator for not explaining that i wasnt actually getting 7 nights in the hotel?

    F

I think the tour operator or the hotel have made the error. To have your 7 night holiday that you have paid for they should not be making you leave the room today, you have paid for 7 nights, so after 2pm today is the start of your 7th night, you should be able to keep the room right up until you need to leave for the airport tonight.

and i think this is where the technicality will lie. we have actually been travelling with the company on 7 days - but 1hr before midnight on one day, and one hour after midnight on another day, doesnt really count as 2 days, in anyones book, does it?

Holidays are based on nights and not days. You have got 7 nights.

If you fly on a Friday night, your accommodation should be available when you arrive in the early hours of Saturday morning and that is your first night. The following Thursday night is your 7th night.

that is correct and has been mentioned already however the OP has been told to check out after Wednesday night (as today is Thursday) so does not have the 7th night as in post #14

Given a 1:00am departure time was there much point in having a room for the 7th night? They'd be going to the airport at 10:00pm

The "night" would actually have started from around 2pm that day so they would have had the benefit of using the room until they left for the airport.

It does look like the OP only got 6 nights accommodation.

went into travel agents, as i thought that would be easier than having to trawl lots of websites myself

was totally open minded, just giving a rough country i wanted to go to, level of accomm, and that i wanted to go for a week

however, was just looking at my tickets and although i flew out late friday evening, my return flight is first thing friday morning!

have i been diddled out of a days holiday?

When did you book this hol if it was a last minute deal then yes you do get holidays of all sorts of durations 3,5,6,9 etc especially if your going to turkey as there are so many flights and they just fill them up. Were your flight numbers the same ie tcx 659l and tcx 659k if they werent the same then you havent booked a weeks package. How long were you in the travel agents looking for this holiday, if it was a long time both you and the travel agent can lose the will to live when you keep going over the same accommodations, flights etc and in the end you both find a price that your happy with, you run through the flight times everythings hunky dory what a good deal, you sign the paperwork, travel agent has sold you what your happy with, then you get home read it more carefully and realise its less days than you thought but you'd agreed to it cause it was in your budget. I don't think you've been mis sold just misunderstood.
