when is a week, not 7 days?

Options
went into travel agents, as i thought that would be easier than having to trawl lots of websites myself

was totally open minded, just giving a rough country i wanted to go to, level of accomm, and that i wanted to go for a week

however, was just looking at my tickets and although i flew out late friday evening, my return flight is first thing friday morning!

have i been diddled out of a days holiday?

tbh i dont know of any company that does package holidays of 6 days

Flight timings can really shorten your holiday, even though the bedroom will need to be reserved for 7 nights, tends to happen with package holidays from smaller UK airports operated by non UK charters.

How many nights will you spend in the accomodation ? Most TA's adverts state 7 nights and never 7 days.

Saturday - Saturday, arrive Saturday, leave the next Saturday.
Friday - Sunday - weekend break
    Monday - Friday, weekday break

    That's a holiday company I know of.

Package holidays are always quoted in nights, not days. For you to be able to get into your room in the early hours of Saturday the room will have been reserved from Friday afternoon and will count as one of your nights.

The alternative would have been for your room to not have been booked until the Saturday but you would have had nowhere to go from the time you arrived until check-in at 2-3pm Saturday afternoon.

yes, but normally if going away for a week, you take the return leg of the plane journey you came out on

so if my plane lands saturday morning, i would expect to catch the plane that landed the following saturday morning, on its return to the UK

isnt that normally how things work? having been on package holidays for over 30ys, this is the first time, i am not coming home on the return flight

we are having to vacate the room today (have kindly given us an extension til 3), as the flight is at just past midnight tonight, so have to check in today

so leave uk friday arrive hotel saturday. leave hotel thursday, arrive home friday - to me it still doesnt add up to a week - i make that 6 nights, but 7 days (seeing as the flight left the uk at 22.30 and our return flight leaves at 00.20)

so who has made the error? me for thinking a weeks holiday would give me 7 days, not 5 full days, and a few hours either side of midnight on the remaining 2? or the tour operator for not explaining that i wasnt actually getting 7 nights in the hotel?

we seem to be the only ones on our outgoing flight who are leaving the hotel today, so to me that means the tour operator knowingly sold us a 6 night holiday, when we had asked for 7

Flights very so much, that whenever we go we always try to fly out around 6 in the morning, that way we have all day there, then get a flight back the week later but late afternoon,.

We always have 7 nights in our hotel or apartment, or this year we have 10, but we do sleep there 10 nights, and fly home the afternoon of the 11th day.

    Hope that makes sence.

it maybe that the airline in question originates in the country you are going to. have seen it before with Greece and Cyprus.
    so the plane will ...

    Depart Greece 0100
    Arrive London 0300

    Depart London 0500
    Arrive Greece 1100

did the agent not recap the times to you when booking?

i would check all your paperwork that was given to you at the time of booking. if that states different you may have a reason to complain to the agent who booked the holiday.

olympic holidays often have flight times like these.

as others have said.... the accom was booked for 7 nts but you actually only got 6nts there.this is common practice. it shoud have been explained to you at time of booking.

And normally when you book a holiday you are aware of the flight times. Have you been on holiday for 30 years not knowing the flight times until after you had booked it?

I was thinking of going to a rough country too this year and was looking at all the usual options. Where did you decide on in the end?

I was thinking of South Africa but word has it it's not as rough as it used to be. So I might go to Scotland.
