  • Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone has had any luck claiming back money through their credit card for a booking made through 1800hotels.com?

I bought a week in Paris over Christmas 3 weeks ago and now find out they have gone bust. Hotel and GTA have no record of any booking or request which means 1800hotels.com have taken the money.
Can't get proof from GTA (as no record of booking) and 1800hotels.com is bust! HELP!

Egg Card are saying I have to fill in a form and send it back with relevant documentation they require (won't tell me what over the phone - typical) but just wondered if anyone had any luck or advice. Am persuing through Section 75 but a little concerned over comments I have read which state as they are not a travel operator we are screwed!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Very worried....

    Hi,

I assume that you have an invoice that shows the booking? Have you an email from the hotel showing that they do not have a booking for you?

    Also look @ 1800hotels.com & take a screen shot.

Send all that to egg with covering letter ... not sure of the reference about travel operator? you booked a service that you will now not get - so should be able to claim.

Well I spoke to the hotel - they have given us the same room incl breakfast for £1100 - it should have been about £1700 ....

So we have had to pay an extra £1100!!! Not what we wanted ... but decided as we wanted this holiday & had already booked the flights to go ahead & book - worry about the money later on!

We are not covered by insurance & didn't pay on cc (stupid - but don't actually have one!) - last hope is the bank - but that is a slim one!!

If you paid via a VISA debit card you should apply through your bank for a VISA charge back. If you come across bank staff who say you cannot claim your money back don't be fobbed off because you can.

Wow, hadn't checked this forum for a few days, this is the first I'd heard of the situation.

I booked our honeymoon (flying out next Monday) in Dubai with 1800 back in April.

Have just checked with the Head Office of the hotel in question and the reservation is still valid ...cue mass relief on my part.... hope all you guys who aren't as fortunate as myself get sorted.

I was affected by the demise of XL a couple of years ago...all I would say is for those who may have paid via Visa Debit card is to raise a "Visa Chargeback" query with your card issuer as soon as possible (within 120 days of the booking). More info here http://whatconsumer.co.uk/visa-debit-chargeback/
  • Hi all
Wanted to share another 1800 hotels nightmare story. Booked 2 hotels in October for our honeymoon total £1400 in hawaii. Only found out something was up when looking on 1800 website yesterday. Called hotel and bookins were cancelled already unbelievable, of course payment was taken in full. Now hotel has no availability for our dates or we have to fork out over a thousand pounds more for a room. These b***tards have left us high and dry, no way of contacting them, only saving grace is i booked on a virgin credit card which of course i paid off in full and cancelled afterwards so dont even know if i'll be covered. anyone got any suggestions:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Even though you have paid off the bill and cancelled the card the card company is still jointly liable under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Moreover, unlike the VISA chargeback scheme, which is just a way of refunding the money you have paid, under section 75 you have the legal right to demand the services or goods that you have paid for rather than your money back. So if the hotel prices have gone up in the meantime it would be better to demand that the credit card company provide you with the accommodation you have booked rather than your money back.

    Hi,

I would grab a screen shot of that website (as I have done), then get confirmation from the hotels that they have no booking for you - then call Virgin & tell them you wish to claim under s75 - don't see why you shouldn't get the money back.

As to the hotel - do want I did - appeal to their better nature - for example offer to pay for one type of room (say 1 lower than you originally booked) & ask for free upgrade ...

You are in a better position than I am ... I paid by debit card ... so have now raised a dispute with the bank.

  • My wife & Children booked two rooms for few nights in Paris - Booking made in June 10 for a stay July 20-23. Arrived there and were told the booking was cancelled & no rooms available. Glad in a way that I was home and managed to get another hotel in Paris - wasn't easy. I went to 1800hotels.com site and they had this screen about bancrunpcy which they have since removed - didn't get a screen shot so appreciate if anyone can email me one. Tried to call their number and they kept me waiting over an hour - basically my phone battery weny down. few angry emails with no feedback at all. email to customer service came back with an error!!
Family just back from Paris yesterday so not sure what to do now. Payment made with Debit card (read the word stupid and agree).
Being an Irish company mean part of the EU - anything there that can help.
    Thanks.
    Dino.
