So, hushed (and with bated breath

Should have come back sooner to tell!! It went into the dealer on Friday, I had to take it though as hubby wasn't back when scheduled! Explained the situation and a mechanic (I think) drove the car round the block, with me in the passenger seat. I was sooo pleased when he pulled out the dealer car park and the wheels did exactly the same to him!! He got out and said I had really overinflated the tyres (I've never done anything to the tyres, they were inflated at the garage at the last service!) They sorted the tyres out and the man took my car again and said there were still problems. The mechanic then started to talk about the camber and clutch problems! (I think thats what he said!?!)
My husband is back tomorrow night and he's going to take the car back to the garage this week cos he doesn't trust me to sort and understand what's being said! Luckily we have an estate as well so I've been using that. I know the Mazda is not driving the same, just hope my hubby won't blame me if its got any major problems to fix!! :rotfl::heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Well thanks jannine for being a sport and letting us in on the latest - should be enough there for the real petrolheads to chew on before your old man reports his verdict next week

I sure the petrolheads will give their professional opinion! I think I will get my hubby to post the next instalment, will probably make more sense than me!! The tyre talk I could understand, when he started to talk about clutches and revs and such like, I'm afraid I zoned out! This will teach me to drive hubby's car, gonna stick to my audi estate from now on, more economical and practical!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Did they say what pressure the tyres were inflated to?
Thanks for posting back, it helps others using the search function to get answers to the same question in the future.0 -
I sent my Mrs on a RWD driving course when I bought her Zed as before she had a 1.6 focus that couldnt pull a skin off a rice pudding, she impressed the instructor and picked up the different driving style with ease.
Might be worth going for a day to learn how your car handles, especially when going sideways. Like a poster above I scared a salesman silly within 5mins of leaving the mazda dealer, but must admit I am more used to fast 4wds than RWDs which might explain that one.
Now she has made noises about wanting the ford RS500

good idea for people used to front wheel drive cars changing to high power RWD,however the OP has had car 2 years and the problem is car related and not driver related.0 -
I used to have an RX-8. Bought new so I got the free day at Prodrive. With the traction control / dynamic stability or whatever it is called on you could floor the throttle on their skid pan and the car would simply refuse to rev or do anything other than make slow forward progress. With it off the thing was like a wild animal:rotfl:.
So, either you have somehow switched this off (details in the handbook) or it has failed in some way, is my guess. Not having read the whole thread I bet there is some other explanation that I have missed:(.0 -
I used to have an Audi A2, which had what I called a "light switch" clutch - it was either engaged or dis-engaged, there was no happy medium. This led to either wheel spinning or stalling. I mentioned this to a mate who owns a Lotus Elise, and he had experienced the same thing in a courtesy car - a Peugeot 307. Now both of us have owned a variety of cars, and gone around various tracks.
If the RX8 has a clutch problem, then the over inflated tyres would make it practically uncontrollable.0 -
There seem to be two versions of the RX8, 190bhp and 230bhp..... But either would destroy a clutch in 10'000 miles if you ride it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
