I have a wool duvet and its warmer and nicer than any blankets I remember having - its antidust mite also and I have a wool pillow and a wool mattress cover - all natural stuff.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

It's got to be duvets all the way. I agree with the above poster about washing duvets though. I keep meaning to take mine to the laundromat as it is too big to fit into my washing machine.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Sorry there's a few OS things from my childhood that can stay there and these are one of them.0 -
I remember the "continental quilts" when they first came to Britain c.1970. I had encountered them before on a school trip to Denmark, where they were used long before they came here. In Denmark it is called a dyne, which means "down". (down as in feathers, not direction.) Somehow it picked up a French name. I've used a dyne/duvet since the early 1970s, and the old bedclothes seem so strange if I am staying in someone else's house or in an hotel. When first climbing into bed the bedclothes are like a straitjacket. If it is very cold in winter, I will use a sleeping bag and put the duvet over it.0

Hi all,
We've got a sheet or an empty duvet cover on the bed at the moment, its very warm here. (Sheet for me, duvet cover for OH, he's not as hardy as me!)
The rest of the year we have a duvet. I have trouble, as I like the weight of lots of duvet on me, but I'm always too hot. Anyone got a solution to this?

Yes, I remember them being called continental quilts and then we called them downies. Is that a Scottish thing?0

Get yourself one of those very thin duvets, and a cotton blanket or throw the same size. Fasten them together and place inside your duvet cover.
I am currently on a cotton blanket inside a duvet cover, because it's so stickly at night at the moment. Otherwise I prefer a duvet during the winter.
I also wash my feather duvets and pillows in the washing machine (I have a large drum) and put them out on very sunny days to dry out. Then just fluff them out again.0 -
