Evans - what went wrong?

I have to agree with loads of you... Evans is just not for me at all at the moment. It is really expensive and poor value for money.
I hate most of the 80s style clothes with a passion (whether they are fasionable of not). They do nothing for me or my shape. I'm just bored sick of it being everywhere! I hate cartoon / face / logo /barbie / sparkling tops printed on the cheapest possible shapeless sack tshirts and this is just a variation on exctly the same stuff they have been stocking for the last few years. (Butterflies everywhere was the obsession a year or 2 ago I think) What there is, is very poor on quality! The tshirts (especially the plain ones) go really shapeless after a couple of washes too - they could really do with a bit of elastane in them so they retain some kind of shape.
Even the smarter work type clothes are very odd (or the same old style (that doesn't fit) as the past 4 yrs just in another blooming colour). Even buying stuff in the sales is quite poor value for money if it is only going to fall to bits quickly.
Don't get me started on the shoes & boots! The soles in particular are abysmal. I am plus sized and hence weigh more than the average UK person... I need shoes that will cope with this and not just collapse/fall to bits after maybe 2 months of wearing a couple of times a week.
I think I've only bought 1 thing there in the last 12 months - a lovely shirt (reduced to £5 :money:). I'm off to Anne Harvey / M and Co and all the others that do better value and quality (and style) larger clothes the next time I'm looking for something.

Must say I agree with lots of the comments- Evans stuff seems very 'same-y' and not cheap either! I haven't bought anything there for ages. I'm a bit more mature!!!than some of you other ladies I think and tend to buy things in Bon marche (not the polyester stuff thank you!) and I've had some stylish dressy tops from M & Co 'though their sizing is mean- luckily I've bought them when reduced in price! Tesco large size range hasn't had anything I have liked this season- maybe it's my taste??Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Being a larger person (20) I can't shop in evans as the trousers are not cut right for my shape the tshirts are as someone else described made out of dishcloth material they are really expensive too. I thought that Evans being for larger ladies would cut their clothes for all larger shapes instead of one this really dissapoints me, I get my jeans/trousers from adsa or m&s I can get most of my tshirts from asda too.
Or I order online there is a good store I found called sizeupclothing.com they do mens stuff too I've ordered from them a few times. I hope this helps some of you.

The 1980s seem to be back in fashion, I think it's horrendous. Tassles on your shoes, anyone?
I've never found Evans clothes to be very good for me, they are seriously baggy around my shoulders and look stupid. The clothes seem to just be bigger versions of what slim people wear - why would an Evans-size woman want mid thigh skirts, or strappy tops? Oh and all the pictures on their website make them look like a maternity shop.0 -
Latest update on the never ending search for acceptable/respectable clothing...
Suitable clothing required for a wedding this weekend. Evans already dismissed as the reception doesn't have a theme of 1980s heroin addict/prostitute.
I decided that a below knee linen shift dress would be appropriate for the event. Nothing out on show, good quality material, etc.
I buy what seems to be a nice example from Marks and Spencers. I get the largest size I ordinarily fit into, as it is silly to buy something too small and then complain about it.
The lining, however, seems to be about 4 inches narrower than the standard measurements for the stated dress size around the hip. The lower part of the dress itself, other than the lining, is a perfect fit, which suggests that I have bought the correct size - that and the rows of clothes in my wardrobes also bearing the same size label. A rapid technical adjustment is made. The top half, however, absolutely drowns me. I appear to be melting.
At the same time, I bought a top from them in a size larger than normal as the fabric looked a little on the clingy side. That fits perfectly.
So, following this logic, if I wear the dress, my top has shrunk 2 sizes, my lower half has grown two sizes and my top has grown 3 sizes within a 24 hour period. Whilst I happily blame my inactivity, injury and steroid prescriptions together with calorie intake as responsible for my growth, I'm at a complete loss as how to blame myself for this. It's the equivalent of being a size 6, 10, 14 and 12 all in the same day and in the same 2 items of clothing.
Oh well, at least it created a semblance of a respectable shapeless lump, instead of a slightly shop soiled shapeless lump.

Ugh. The (rather extreme in some cases) variations in sizing really bug me!
If you're after some nice, well cut clothes I can recommend Kaliko. I have a few pieces from them and they all fit really well. Ann Harvey may also be worth a try as there's a sale. HTH.

I always think it's a bit risky to wear a top with a young beautiful face on it. My own face, a few inches above it, probably wouldn't fare too well in the inevitable comparisons.
Plus, in the same way that I don't wat to wear someboy elses's name on my clothes, I don't want to wear somebody else's face either.
The Evans in our town has recently closed down, but before that I went in at least once a week and tried things on. I don't think I bought hardly anything from there for about a decade though. (They must have loved me coming in and messing up their displays for nothing!)
I find tons of things I want at Next, Ann Harvey and Simply Be - but not at Evans - not for years. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
I have to agree, I do wish Evans would have a look at styling clothes that flatter the larger figure (I have a big bust, so occasionally look in there for a top which actually fits!).
Something styled for a size 8 - 12 lady will likely not flatter a more curvaceous figure.
Have a word with yourself Evans, and gert some decent designers, and start with wardrobe staples!
