I refuse to buy anything from Evans unless its very reduced in the sale, but even that seems to be pointless now. I would be suprised they last much longer!

I feel exactly the same about Evans lately, so much so that Im going to write them a letter.
The majority of tops in there seem to me to be cut from one pattern but with different fabric, a button here, a change of something there.
    I call them "Fat Tops".

As a plus size lady we were always advised NEVER commit the cardinal sin of stripes across, wear 3/4 length sleeves etc etc.
And the price....dont even get me started, do they think because were overweight we will wear any old sh*t just because it fits?

I went into Sainsburys today and I didnt know they do a plus size range in their TU clothing, its lovely and very reasonable.

This for example is awful, the patterns across will make me look wider than I am, the sleeveless style will just make me howl, because of my fat upper arms, it wont do much for my boobs either and the length will swamp me and make me look like a child trying on her Mummys dresses :(

Isn't that just the fashion? I have a few tops with women's faces on them - similar to the style above - and I thought the idea of Evans was to make typical fashion styles that everyone could wear?
Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

A neighbour works at M&Co and she was telling me how improved their plus range is. Still a lot of frumpy stuff there but seems to be a bit more thought behind some of the styles and the prices are more reasonable than Evans.

Also, re the point about a lot of Evans clothes not covering up the wobbly bits............not sure who Evan's target market is these days, but a lot of younger larger girls don't give a toss about covering their wobbly bits!!!

I like those M&Co items! Unfortunately there are no stores in N.Ireland, but they do deliver here, so I will be putting an order in - thanks for the links Bronnie.

Thank you, Bronnie. Not everything is to my taste, but there is at least a range of different styles to look at.

And the Sainsbury's TU jeans are very good quality, BTW. It's a two hour journey to get to a branch stocking it where I am, but anyone that can get to them, they are worth the money.

Bint just means young female where I'm from - it obviously means something different where some of the posters come from. I still don't understand the wish to carry an enlarged cartoon of a thin - if that floats your boat more - teenager on my chest. I know I'm not a size 4 (heck, even my feet aren't that small), I don't need to suggest to everyone else that I only feel attractive if I can have a picture of someone else much smaller in build than me on my expensive but cheap material clothes.

I also have an issue with the winter/Christmas ranges - I don't want to flash my cleavage at every opportunity (despite my size, I haven't got as much up top as the sizings seem to expect, either - but I posted because I am fed up of a whole shop full of cheap tops, all grey/stripey/with pictures of thin women on. One or two wouldn't be a bad thing - you could buy them or not, getting something different if preferred.

But there isn't much different available in Evans. Unless you like 1980s Dynasty/Dallas style sequins all over the shoulders/animal print.

The 1980s was bad enough experienced first time round. The fashions were incredibly unflattering to the thin, never mind to the other.

And the shops are getting progressively more empty as the months go on.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • Evans is not as good as it was - year on year they churn out the same style blouses, just in a different colour! The buttons drop off and the hems unravel. The last pair of trousers I bought there have gone "bobbly" after 4 months. Their knitwear does the same. I don't want my "bingo wings" on show either - why do they make sleeveless tops? And when they do put sleeves on garments they are way too short or those silly puff sleeves that look dreadful. I don't like strings that tie at the back and make you look even larger that you are, either!
Marks & Spencer's Classic Range goes up to 24, but they are pretty limited on styles. I've never tried New Look - will give it a go! Don't rate Matalan's Rogers & Rogers range much, either - again, not well made.

Yeah I hate Evans too. Overpriced, usually seemingly made for tall people and loads of really unflattering tops.

I find whenever I'm looking for non fashionable items, just wardrobe basics, that I seem to struggle in Evans. For example earlier this year I started a new job and wanted to buy a black shirt and found myself met with 1 style of shirt in primary colours blue/red/green, another uber expensive patterned shirt that looked like it should be part of a travel agents uniform, and another made of that crinkly material which I don't think looks very smart, at least, it doesn't on me. Also their jeans are hit and miss and when I finally spy a pair that I think looks like the right fit, I pick it up and find it has some pattern down the leg or glitter on the bum or costs £20 more than the bad fitting ones. So yeah, I try to avoid Evans when I can.
