lol re the diet pills. Ive been there and I didnt need the diet pills to get there. It seems to real at the time though, then afterwards you begin to wonder if MAYBE there is something in it afterall. Because surely your thoughts couldnt have changed so much.....
Being made redundant is !!!!!!, I was sacked two weeks ago now .... not really my fault but it was kind of. Its knocked my confidence though and Im still quite defensive about the whole thing. I will have a look at those books now.

I guess it must be all the caffeine and all the other wierd stuff in them, it's not the healthy way to go about it for sure. I'm gonna get stuck into a low fat diet and exercise until the book turns up and then I will read that and decide if I want to give it a go.
Being out of work, for whatever reason is hard, and it really does knock your confidence, sorry to hear about your job x I was made redundant on 7th May and apart from a couple of interviews I've not got anywhere, I have income protection insurance though and I'm living off that until uni and then I'll go for a part time job around my student loan.. It all worked out okay in the end.
Books look good, it'll give me a bit of a push anyhow9/70lbs to lose0 -
Weight Watchers works for definite! I have lost weight with them and just pay for online membership although some people need the discipline of meetings. For exercise I suggest starting off with half hour walks, try couch to 5k podcasts (if you have an ipod) and many WWs swear by 30 day shred dvd which I am going to try - only £6.47 from amazon hard work but gets you fit,

I'll have a look at podcasts as I do have an iPod, good idea!
That DVD looks deadly lol - I have the wii personal trainer, and 17 mins of that leaves me a jelly like mess
The thing is I do snowboarding every week or two weeks and I'm really good at it, but found that I'm too heavy to do the big jumps now and my feet are aching a lot in the snowboarding boots..got to get fit just for that really. Went away in March this year and we only did about 4 hrs a day, but I scoffed so much food that I felt knackered all the time, very bad habit really.

i have lost over 8stone on atkins and am fairly fit (considering i have a bad back) i go to the gym and swim 2/3 times a week
its the motivation thats the hard bit really. u just have to convince yourself this is the time and also make it into a routine that no one diverts u from, get selfish, read lots and post on forums that support your diet choice, log your food there and let people comment it all helps to keep you on track
btw the idiot proof diet is a good intro to atkins and a really easy read

Shykins - thanks for that.. especially agree with the selfish part of it.. I always seem to struggle at weekends when boyfriend is here, and it's because I always want to cook food to please him. We will just have different meals from now on.
Thanks for the helpful post9/70lbs to lose0 -
Try www.livestrong.com - it's free and you put in your weight now, your weight goal (i.e. lose a pound a week, two pound a week, etc) and it gives you your calorie goal. You track what you've eaten AND what you've exercised and it takes the exercised calories off. Really good for giving you that motivation to stick to the gym session you'd planned. Plus they have lots of dares (e.g. dare to exercise more, dare to track your waist size) and forums for other folks in the same boat. It gives you graphs of your weight journey and can even combine it with your calorie intake (funnily enough when my calories go down, so does my weight, hmmm)! I'm a total convert and have lost 10lbs in the last 12 weeks (which is pretty much by weight loss goal) so am feeling very pleased with myself!0

I second the couch to 5k podcast recommendations. They are brilliant, and I really enjoy my running now.
I've lost 22lb on SW since April, and I find the diet easy to stick to plus I like the discipline of a weigh in each week.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
I'm low carbing now, or as Alias calls it icing. Anyhoo, if I can stick with it, and the only reason I don't is because a part of my brain feels cheated out of goodies, my body doesn't want them, I know I'll lose the two stone I want to shift.
I tried WW, but after losing the initial 2lb's (yes only 2), I remained completely static. I just couldn't take it seriously, it was too Little Britain for me, and every time I looked in the points book, I just fancied a Penguin.
Anyhoo, good luck, if we all keep checking in on each other in the various threads on here, maybe we can feel inspired enough to maintain our healthy eating regimes.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
