Anyone lost weight & got fit ?

Hey there,

Having a bit of a crisis.. I want to lose about 4 stones and get fitter.. I just seem to be stuck in a downward spiral :o

So, has anyone lost weight and got fit, if so, how did you do it and what gave you the motivation to get up off the couch?

I'm tired of eating all the carbohydrate crap and feeling bloated and tired.. :o

    hey,

I managed to lose 2 stone last year but I have put a stone back on ;( feeling really down about all sorts of things at the moment and I too just cant get motivated to get to the gym (exercise has helped me enormously in the past). Are we anywhere near each other? I have searched for gym partners without success, maybe we could buddy up? Im Preston, Lancashire.

I'm in Castleford, Leeds.. prob a little too far for a gym buddy, but we could buddy up on here and motivate eachother? :)

I just rang the gym and managed to get it for £14.99 a month on a rolling 30 day contract. It's a 1.5mile walk there, then gym, then 1.5 miles back after, so I should get a good bit of exercise.

I've lost a few stones in the past, and I've nearly put it all back on now :( it's awful... especially when you know how good it feels to be slimmer.

I might even go Weight Watchers on Weds night at my local class.. eeek!

    Gem :)

Sounds, that price is about what I pay for total fitness though mine was paid all in one go .... so really I am wasting money! I look excellent slimmer, I got so many comments from people who I hadnt expected to notice.

I found WW/SW to be too restrictive (encouraging me to rebel) plus expensive. There is a Eating for Health forum on a well known womens website which I used to frequent but I am out of the habit .... I just want to be one of those people who is slim and just stays that way!

Me too Jen, I look at magazines etc and am so envious, I just want to look better :)

I am going to go WW mainly to get weighed really. I know I can get weighed anywhere, for less than £5, but it does seem to work when I know I have to step on those scales. I've got a free registration and first meeting voucher I just printed off the website, so I'm gonna go along tomorrow night.

My boyfriend is so supportive, I just want to actually make progress this time, instead of fooling myself that one choccy bar won't hurt.

Not sure what to do diet wise though, I tend to get a bit obsessed with counting points on WW. I may just stick to 1500 kcals a day and less than 4% fat per item.

lol Ive tried the embarrasing pics on the fridge/cupboard and sayings such as A minute on the lips, lifetime on the hips etc but they just dont seem to penetrate.

If that is what works for you then thats what is best. I love cooking so I have a fair idea about what is bad for me although I CANT seem to say No when I need too. The site I mentioned are good at offering recipes and substitions but I just dont like most diet/healthly food, fruit/veg or nuts etc. I found the WW here when I last went to be very patronising and focused on the clueless.

I did buy some weighing scales thinking I would save some money by not getting weighed at bo0ts every two weeks but actually I looked forward to it and it was more accurate.

I'm the same, I love cooking and I know a good deal about nutrition (due to many diets lol), it's a case of not kidding yourself that it's okay... that's the hard bit.. I'll have a look at that site now and see what it says.. :)

I live on my own, apart from boyfriend coming over at weekends, and he likes his snacks etc, but he doesn't eat that much really and is quite small, so I feel even fatter stood next to him.. :(

I know he wants me to lose weight, for my health mostly, but because he knows my confidence would be better, altho I've been this weight all through our relationship.

But, him aside, I'd love to finally do it and I know myself that exercise is the key to it.. If I can get through the first 2 weeks, I reckon I will feel much better.

Also, I'm off to uni in Sept (I'm 27) and I just don't want to be the fat one. I also want to join a few clubs and my weight is putting me off, even though I'm really good at sports, I'm just too unfit and overweight at the moment.

I also agree that WW is patronising. Don't eat chocolates etc etc, yes! I know that... lol. My sister is on a diet plan at the moment where you have to see a doctor each week and get a prescription for diet pills, she has done really well, she isn't as overweight as me though and is about a size 12 at the moment. But it's £20 a week! and no clinics near me. Plus, £20 is a lot, and I'd still have to pay for the gym and going swimming too.

lol the image of a little bf and you! I often feel like that about friends, they all seem so much smaller and dainter than me.

Good luck with uni, Ive just recently finished. What are you studying?

For me university contributed to my weight gain through stress and never being able to find time to exercise. Have you thought about working on your self-esteem/confidence first? I came across this site and Ive taken the test this evening. Its obviously a marketing technique but there is some truth in what they are saying too....

I don't agree with diet pills, everything ive looked into relating to them says its a short term solution. You have to re-learn your eating habits. Have a look around AmaSon/local librart for books on overeating too - they have been useful to me.

Have you got a Rosemary Conley class nearby?

I joined today, paid £28 for 5 weeks classes, including free membership and some goodies. The best part being instead of sitting around gossiping and clapping people for an hour and a half, there's the usual weigh-in, a very focussed 10 minute talk, then a 45minute exercise session.

I don't need to lose a lot, just keep things under control and try to up my exercise. The plan is around 1200 cals for the 1st 2 weeks and less than 5% fat foods in the main, but seems quite sensible and flexible to me and importantly in my opinion, helps you to focus on controlling portion size.

Nearest one is 7 miles away :( although, the exercise class sounds like a great idea, at least it's more value for money than WW..

Portion size is a massive issue of mine, and snacking.. :o

Small people make me feel huge! :o

I will be living in my own flat whilst at uni, so I really want to get into a good routine now and try and stick with it whilst at uni. Not sure on my timetable yet, or even the part time job I need, so things might be hard to fit in. Altho I have the personal trainer on the Wii as a back up.

I tried Thermobol diet pills, but to be honest they kinda worked for a few days, curbed my appetite etc, and I lost 4lbs in 4 days, but I got paranoid and eventually they didn't seem to work anymore. Ergh, took about a week for the paranoya to go.. :(

I am a confident person generally, but I do have a low self esteem, and confidence is not as high as normal either, I'll have a look at that link.

I'm sudying Quantity Surveying, should be fun I hope :D

GEEGEE, can you see if they do fitness clases through uni? I'm at uni, and I'm going to join the taekwando class at my uni. It's cheaper and it looks to be better than the gym
