  • Afternoon, all!

    Well, fairly busy weekend here.

Friday night - out for meal with The Bloke. Dragged him out to a club that played old soul and funk music (it's his favourite). Never gone out with a bloke that could and would dance before! He was a very happy bunny, as it was a surprise I've had planned for a while now. I'm not brilliant at dancing anymore, but that's hardly surprising, as I'm the one who should be standing at the back keeping the bassline together. 'Tis scary when you realise you're following the bass with the correct fingerwalking pattern or popping and slapping whilst waiting to be served at the bar :). Well, scary until you realise The Bloke is drumming at the same time (Did I mention that he's a drummer?)

Back indoors at 4am. One hour's sleep later, was waiting for the 8.20 train to a Day School in Acoustics. Five hours on the final assessment procedure. I was struggling to stay awake within 5 minutes.

One person there had been grumbling that he had recorded a song fragment, but the instructions/software was faulty as it had 'disappeared' on playback. After 5 hours and the repeated grumbles, the tutor tries helping him. Made a couple of useful suggestions - are the start and end markers in the right place? (answer: NO). what about the Master Volume? Is that a little low? (answer: NO). And have the levels been checked on the individual channel (answer: NO, I've done EVERYTHING RIGHT and it doesn't work, so IT IS BROKEN)

[expecting him to stamp his ickle feet and thump a pudgy fist onto the desk at this point, but walk over to the laptop where the song is displayed, all male members of group + tutor are surrounding the desk]

    Look. Pause.

Try altering the laptop volume, the Master's only on halfway.

Nothing. (I TOLD YOU I'VE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT, IT'S THE COMPUTER PROGRAMME!)

Oh. Okay. Have you considered unclicking the button that says 'MUTE' and trying again?

[Silence ensues...until the music plays successfully]

I walk away, saying nothing (but grinning inanely whilst my back is to him).

    ********

Then a Wedding Reception for a friend who I positively encouraged to meet up with her childhood sweetheart 'Just for a chat, if he's old, fat and bald, you can always not meet him again'. Absolutely terrified walking into posh stately home by myself - wearing a beige shift dress (I don't have legs, I have trousers and trainers/boots at the end of them, as far as anyone else knows) - until I spotted a guy who used to give me grief (in the nicest possible way) at school, so I dashed over and spent the rest of the evening with him, his OH and a couple of other people from school. The photos of me and him doing some kind of Blues Brother Shake Your Tail Feather dance are - interesting :D.

    ******

Woke up to the phone ringing at 7.10am. 'Hello Madam, my name is Jessica'

Unusual name for someone with a Mumbai accent. Yes?

'I am calling to tell you that we can see you have a serious virus problem'

No, that's The Bloke. And he's been taking the cough medicine I bought him yesterday. So you're from the chemist then?

'Um - um - Madam, I'm calling to tell you that - '

Yes. I heard. Where are you from?

'I can help you with the virus infection that we have detected on your PC'

You must be ever so clever then, finding it from all that way away.

'Yes Madam, we can find many things and - '

Can you find my door keys? I'm sure I left them by the front door when I came in last night...

'Oh - er - but - madam, we help with IT as we are -'

Like the IT Crowd? Or The Big Bang Theory? Who are you - are you Penny? Or can you get me in touch with Sheldon? I'd love to get some of his shirts.

    'um - madam, madam, I - we - um -'

But I'm not fussy, I quite like Moss too. After all, anyone who says he would use his robotic arm for good must be OK really....

'Please, madam, if you open up your PC and go to the control panel, we can help you fix the difficulties you are having...'

    How?

'Well, if you go to the control panel..'

    OK. I'll do it.

It's not there. I've lost it. OH MY GOD! I've lost my control panel! I have a VIRUS! Whatever should I do? Can you help me fix it?

'Oh. Ah - madam - click on the part saying Start..'

It's not there. Have you got it?

    'Have we got what?'

The start button. How else are you going to help me? Or did you take it away in the first place?

    'Madam, I - '

DID YOU STEAL MY START BUTTON? How could you do such a thing? That's so cruel...I'm going to take this PC back to Apple and tell them that they've let you steal my start button..

    [click. Buzzzzzzzzz]

Well, what did they expect? They did phone me at 7.10am on a Sunday. They could have caught me in a bad mood :D

    ***************

And, finally, to round off the day, limped around Sainsbury's back in my usual clothes to buy essential supplies - egg, bacon, and the like.

To just remember now that I haven't actually washed any school uniform yet for the morning.

And the mad bird in the attic - wasn't she Mr Rochester's Wife, Antoinette, from Side Sargasso Sea? That book was like being drowned in a vat of vague stupidity. I would have taken that stream of consciousness and wrapped it around his head like a lump of two by four. Not that it was boring. I would have had to be engaged in the book enough to find it boring. Would have been more interested if the book had been about the eels that actually go the to Sargasso Sea - like Tarka the Otter, but more slippery.

    ****

Off to put WM on and top up bath, which I have let get cold.

Oh, and I did load the DW once, so I have technically been flying today :D
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
