    Presumptuous.

I doubt the family where that poor in Somalia otherwise they wouldn't have been able to pay to come here. They would be in a neighbouring country if they were poor and refugees.

It's normally the richer elements of societies who manage to get to Western countries as they have to pay people smugglers etc which you can't do if you are dirt poor.

Many people do, in exchange for sexual or other slavery :(

One thing I would like to know is how many years do they have to be in the UK before they are classed as a "British Citizen"?

I am sorry, but my personal opinion is, if they have not contributed to our society, then in my eyes they are not a British Citizen.

Lots of British born and raised people "dont contribute" to British society, by not working, or being ill or disabled as such that they cannot work.

What do you propose to do with them?

( wishes I didnt ask that question somehow!)

Wouldn't it be cheaper, seeing that the family are asylum seekers, to let them stay in a hostel with others in the same situation, until such time as their father gets off his lazy backside and gets a job with prospects to be able to afford the home they want?

He can't be an asylum-seeker. They don't get LHA. Or any other mainstream benefits.

Usually about 10 years minimum. Can be a bit shorter, but not by much.

I think one of the shocking things about that article is that a terraced house is worth £2 million!!

£2 million? You can pay a lot more than that for a terrace in London. This one is nearly 3 times as much:

Are you some kind of do gooder? Social Worker or otherwise?? Of course, it is in your best interests to keep you job by sticking up for them.

No, I work in commercial property but you have to have been living under a stone not to have known this, pretty common knowledge.

    1) British born and raised people "don't contribute" (your wording).

They are higher up the rung of the ladder than the likes of that scrounger!

    2) ill or disabled as such that they cannot work, (your wording).

I am a disabled person in an electric wheelchair unable to walk at all, yet again myself and all the other ill or disabled people in this country, born and bred, are on a higher rung of the ladder than the likes of that scrounger!

In your opinion. From the report it looks like this chap has at least worked here, earned here, paid taxes here. Many British people have done nothing of the sort, despite being 100% able bodied. If one was interested in the "ladder" some would place him above many British citizens who have done nothing.

I remember the days when disabled people were 3rd class citizens, forbidden from working, spoken about as if they werent there " does she take sugar". Personally find it ever so appalling. Perosnally Im glad that we have moved on from that, when people with disabilities were "the lowest rung of the ladder" an embarrassed to be holed away in hospitals never to be seen or have a life or freedoms.

I think its a great shame that people pass judgement, be it on race, sexuality, gender or even looks. Think it is quite pitiful really.

having said that, doesnt mean I agree with "the system" the biggest cause of this system was mismanagement of the economy. Not one small family, but the way this economy has been governed so I dont see why heaping the blame and vitriol on one family does anything but detract from the real issues at hand here.

He also insisted he was doing his best to find a job.
'I am looking for a job. I am taking a course to train me in how to get a job. I would like any job. Anything in food production or warehouses would be fine.'

Just wondering whether he has though about how he is going to pay such a massive amount of rent when he gets a warehouse job, and his benifits are reduced (probably not stopped altogether). Surely he will then be moving to a 'Poor' neighbourhood?

I don't think people blame this one family for the countries economic problems lynz. I think it's more that the case demonstrates the waste within the system. Which makes people angry, they feel powerless to stop it - a vote every four years, where MP's are nearly always returned with a majority of more than one doesn't count.
