I don't get the argument. They quote the weight of crisps, so I know how much is in the bag. If you can't compare two numbers to work out which bag is bigger, then you've got some life skills to learn.0

Would you be happy if they vacuum packed the crisps so the weight was the same and you paid the same price? At least the pack would be smaller.....even if there are the same number of crisps! The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If you're suggesting the average consumer can tell by looking at a weight value the amount of crisps in a bag and whether the amount is reasonable in comparison to the size of the bag, I'm not the one in need of life skills. You may have knowledge of how much a crisp weighs and by looking at the weight can roughly deduce the amount, but the crux of the matter is that it should be a reasonable expectation that a consumer can purchase a bag of crisps and not find that the contents are in some cases less than half empty. Again, the average person does not examine crisp packets for the weight value and then think "Oh, only 22 crisps in here..." They purchase the crisps and are duped when they receive such a low volume of product. It's dishonest.0 -

I have to say that I would believe you are in the minority if you did not realise that crisps are sold by weight. You do realise that when you look at a bag and that it looks like it is less than half full compared to one that looks full is that they are the same weight and most likely small crisps are in the one that is less than half full and larger crisps and more space between the crisps will be in the larger bagThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I'm aware of how they're sold, but, again, when the average consumer walks into a shop and sees a bag of crisps it should be a reasonable expectation that the bag will be more than half-full. I don't have the time to feel multiple bags of crisps and weigh them to find out which one has more crisps, or spend 5 minutes looking at all the single bags on the shelf to find the one that looks the most full, I shouldn't have to! It's ridiculous to assume everybody else would. This is the crux of the matter, people shouldn't have to be sitting there doing things like this in the first place, it should be that a bag of crisps contains a reasonable amount (i.e about 75% of crisps) - and these bags would be like this if Walkers etc weren't so contemptuous in regards to their customers.0 -

You know one 20g bag of crisps has the same weight of crisps in it as another 20g bag? We're talking accuracy to tenths of a gram here. Who cares what the apparent volume the crisps take up. If you buy a small bag of crisps, and find it inadequate, learn from your mistake and buy the next size up.0 -

I don't think he does understand that 20g of small crisps are the same as 20g of large crisps.
It is a bit like the old thing of what weighs more, a tonne of feathers or a tonne of bricks? The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Perhaps we could lobby Brussels and get the rules changed so that crisps be sold by mass and not weight.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

In regards to the emboldened part, unless I'm misunderstanding you are you honestly saying it isn't important to you how much of the bag the crisps take up, even when we're often talking of less than half full? In my opinion the amount of crisps you receive should be in good proportion with the size of the packaging (i.e, the bag should be about 75% full); you don't agree with this?0 -

No because as other people have pointed out the bag could be a metre wide by a metre high but have the same number of crisps in it, and I noticed you did not answer whether you would prefer the crisps vaccum packed so that the air waste is tiny.....The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
