Renting Problems, Damp.

I shall try give more info on this.....
I didn't opt for renting this house, my partner moved in 2 years before I knew her. Its her name on the tenancy.
She has lived here for 4 years now and as far as I'm aware she doesnt have any contract on the tenancy but I could be wrong (she has taken the kids out as I want them to out as much as possible at the mo).
When she was first interested in the house the LL would not let her view the property until the LL had finished doing the insides up, he said she would be put off by the damage caused by previuos tenants, holes in carpets, kicked in doors, broken toilet etc etc. I now think he was covering the mould up with new plaster, hiding all the damp so she didn't have a clue what she was getting into (deception?). He made it look very nice when she moved in, new plaster, new wallpaper, new skirting boards etc etc etc.
I am convinced now that he has taken her for the biggest ride of her life, he has done this on purpose knowing damn well what the problems are, and as she asked for this house because she was pregnant and needed another bedroom he is a complete @#*!
Doesn't really stop there either, I believe the MAINS power coming into the house will one day completely corrode away, the pipe is constantly wet through and gets dripped on 24/7, could this electricity supply go bang at any time??
Those pictures are ONE example of the mould. At the top of that wall we have a patch of 'blistered' plaster, its soft, really soft, I think the wallpaper is holding the plaster together, now I'm wondering what the wooden beams are like holding the damn ceeling up!! These are surely wrotten too and the state this house is in it will eventually fall down......
I hope for god sakes I dont see the LL, I havent a clue what to say to him, I don;t know if I can hold back from squashing him into the ground. Whilst he is now in Spain drinking the finest wines we are ill, and IMO in constant danger of health and safety.
I have pics to follow of other areas of the house........0 -
This is soooo depressing.........
Welcome to the cellar....this is the wall where all the problems are.
This is what happens to anything we sotre in the cellar, the EH told me as we don't live in the cellar there is nothing wrong with this.
This is another section of the cellar, you can see the wetness of it, on the left is the corroding elec supply, on the right is our new gas meter which needs replacing every 4-6months. At the top is the bottoms of out patio in the front yard, this is what was tanked out last time EH came out and told my LL to do exaclty that.
Close up of the patio from the cellar, you can see the drops of water ready to drop from those screws???
Back to the front room, this is the top of the wall as in post #10.
Close-up. You can actually make out the blister lumps.
Completely different area of the room ceeling, this is where the bath is.....LL told us the drains up there arent big enough and cant carry the amount of water needed when we empty bath. Bath takes 4 weeks to empty.
Upstairs now, direclty outside where my two little girls sleep. Slowly getting worse.
This is the chipboard inside the wardrobe in our bedroom, thrown lots of clothes away as a result of this.
Not seen this myself until now, i'm gutted! Pulled out the drawers in the wardrobe unit and this is what we have. Same wall as in post #10 but upstairs.

If anyone can advise me of anything that may be of use I'll be a m8 forever!0 -
You MUST take these photos to the council - start with your local councillor (ring up the council and they will give you his/her name and phone number, or it may be available in your local post office. Never mind trying to get your landlord to fix this - you must get a better house from the council.
good luck0 -
Even if we dont have a council house at the mo?0
-
yes, folks in your position, should be way higher up the list for a council property. Lynzpower on here may be able to give you more precise advice as to how to do this.0

You can try http://www.upmystreet.com/
to locate your local representatives. Housing associations have taken over many housing duties that were once handled by the coucil.

OP, this looks grim and you should not be paying rent to live in such a place!
In your position I would be packing my bags now. Your partner needs to wake up, smell the mould and realise her kids deserve better! OK you could go the council route but this may take time. Have you checked out whether you could affod to move to another privately rented place.0 -
ps do you mean silverfish when you say whitefish?
make sure you tell the EH officer about this infestation, it sounds horrendous esp with small children around.0 -
Yeh I meant silverfish sorry.
We can't afford todays rent prices round here. We are looking at an extra £200 for a two bedrrom place.
If e want a 3 bedroom we are talking about £500p/m. This is not possible with the amount of money we pay out in debts.0 -
@T4i
When will the debts be repaid ?
Are debts an issue than hinder, finding another place to live ?
