Yup, me too. and glass jars and even plastic containers. That looks even worse now I've written it down.
Well, they've got to be washed up somehow, haven't they?

When I went into hospital a couple of years ago, it was my elderly relatives who decided to have a sort-out. They went into the children's rooms and started throwing things out, went through the drawers in my bedroom etc.

The children were outraged, and haven't really forgiven them. I, through gritted teeth, see that they were trying to help, but I'm torn between relief that there wasn't anything private and shocking tucked into a drawer, and regret, because, if there had been, they wouldn't have gone looking again. ;)

Errr...why? - as in why on earth did they do so?

OOH...(((poor you)))....they would have had "an earful" from me in those circumstances...

....Anyway...back to the original reason O.P. posted this thread - there really is no way that an old person/anyone COULD tell anyone if they had any money stashed away somewhere. Reason - I doubt there is anyone who hasnt made an error of judgement at some point as to who can and can't be trusted. I'm sure we've all of us trusted people that we subsequently realised simply werent trustworthy. Most of the time that trust has been broken and we've been betrayed by people telling others something that we had told them in confidence (most of us have learnt the hard way that some people simply can't resist the "sense of importance" they get by passing on information they were told in confidence). From this - by the time they get to old age most people would have realised that the person they told in confidence about any money they had might be the local burglar - or be stupid enough to be friends with the local burglar and "open their big mouth" in conversation with that burglar.

As a retired 'old dear' myself I would be hopping mad if someone rifled through my cupboards and chucked things out If i want to keep a tin of anything in there no matter how old it is then its my perogative. My DDs wouldn't dream of throwing anything of mine out without asking if I wanted it first

How did this pan out in the end?

Did she ever get her money back?

Has she told them firmly to stop doing this? - rather than just complaining about it to other people.

Assuming she has - then she needs to change the locks so they cant get in without her letting them in. After that - tell them exactly why she has had to change the locks. She is being WAY too trusting of them if they've come back and done it again - after she, presumably, complained the first time.

One really does have to ask WHY someone would rifle through someone else's possessions a second time - after the person made it plain they were unhappy the first time:think:

Anyone who came round to mine and 'started chucking stuff out' would very smartly be shown the door and left in no doubt as to what I thought about this kind of behaviour!
