oops, read that wrong.still,if you bought somebodys home you would ask if there was anything they wanted.i remember an old aunt of my dads used to always tell him to make sure he looked after her chair when she popped off.kept saying it was his and begging him to look after it for her.he just humoured her.eventually she went into a home and asked dad to clear her flat.he did, when he picked her chair up he felt something shift inside.on closer inspection she had been stashing her money in it,all rolled up.didnt put it in the bank, just her chair.there was 3 thousand shoved inside a hole in the seat.no wonder she kept asking dad to look after it for her.lol.turns out it was her funeral money and she didnt trust banks!!:oShine on you crazy diamond..............0

I feel hurt that people think we could have taken it,It was just a stupid mistake and thought it might help others but we have just been branded thiefs.0 -
This is a shocking scenario.
I also stash cash in hiding places around the house. The thought of any relatives coming in and throwing stuff out is just outrageous.
The fact is that it is almost impossible to trust anyone these days.
You can't trust the banks with the cash because they tell the tax people and if you keep it at home then your relatives screw you over.
So far as the OP is concerned, how would s/he feel if that relative came in their house and started chucking stuff out?

I do too. I have money in various jacket pockets, some in my wallet and some in a tin.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I belive the OP ment well - Hindsight is a wonderful thing but she (?) is asking that everyone learns from her mistake. To suggest she took the money, spent it on a holiday and then came on here to get kicked in the teeth is .... well typical of what I read on here at the moment to be honest.
OP = thank you - I'll remember that. I'm sure you thought you were doing your best and it backfired. I'm sorry you've been made to feel worse about it here.House saving Targets:

bought not broughtyes she was at home at the time
I think the kindest thing would be (after finding out how much she thought was in the tin) to tell her you had found the tin but it was badly damaged, but that you had retrieved the cash, and to give her the amount of money. Any other method would involve her telling you to 'not worry about it'.0 -
Natnhay is getting a bit of stick here for trying to help!
Perhaps the food cupboards looked untidy and in need of a sort out.
However, elderly people are notorious for having cash stashed away. My grandfather had £800 in the world's most tatty jacket which my mother was about to throw our - not even in a charity bag. When my mother died, we found random amounts of cash in about 6 handbags!Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I absolutely agree.
Tell her the money's turned up and just give the equivalent back to her. Otherwise it's even more upsetting for someone who sounds like she's been through enough as it is."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
The way things are going we'll all be hiding money in the house just like our grandparents did." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
