But - thanks to THIS particular board.... I am a proud owner of

OP- sorry, did not mean to hijack your thread but... actually you may want one of those thingys for your own dog :)

    ....

Hey no problem - hijack all you want - the more info and advice I can get the better!

I actually have something similar to this for one of the cats who's long-haired and gets lots of tangles. Can't remember what it was called now but looks very like it. I tried it on Trooper this afternoon and it was amazing! However he didn't seem to enjoy it too much - just sat with his head drooping and his tail wagged furiously every time I stopped. It wouldn't be too sharp for him or anything would it? How would I know? The cat's not hot on it either but he has his own special way of telling me

Just wanted to test this out and also show you all who I wouldn't want stolen from me!

Like I mentioned earlier a lot of people have said to me 'oh someone wouldn't steal a big dog' but at the end of the day I think people will steal anything these days...

I used to tie my other dog up outside, but only if I could keep checking she was ok and still there - similar to margaret clark if I was nipping in for a paper or something.
Couldn't do it with current mutt as she'd probably end up biting someone. Kids who've seen the film Babe tend to come zooming over trying to say hello - it always amazes me the number of parents who let them do it even when I'm standing there telling them to keep away as the dog isn't safe.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I use a training lead as you can clip them to an object without removing the lead

I'd never tie my dog up outside a shop or anywhere due to the possibility of him being stolen. However, my belief on this was sadly reinforced due to a barbaric incident which occured in my area 2 years ago. Two teenagers took a collie from the owners garden, used wire to tie him to a lampost on a main road and set him alight. Thankfully the dog was saved and given vet treatment. There was an ongoing piece on the local news about it as people were understandably appalled. The dog is now ok thank god and I've no idea what happened to the low-lifes that did that. Despite this kind of thing being rare, I just dont think you can take the chance of leaving your dog as there are people that may have a cruel, spur of the moment thought and act upon it and I'd never forgive myself if I put my dog in such a vunerable situation. I'm not saying this is likely to happen if you do leave your dog but it's an example of a real danger that pet owners face. Sorry if my comment is a bit off track from the OP but I feel so strongly about this now that I had to mention it.

Oh my God  I have goose bumps all over me from reading that and I feel physically sick - I could cry just thinking of that poor, poor dog

Why, HOW, can people be SO cruel to a defenseless and innocent animal?

Please God don't ever give me the chance, but what I could do with ten minutes alone in a room with these b@st@rds.
