What do you use to tie your dog up outside?

Oh my God now you've got me all paranoid!! lol
I must admit I've never been that comfortable with it purely because of that point that he's tied up and therefore vulnerable. It's only been for a few minutes at any time when I've needed to pop in for a pint of milk/paper/whatever or something on our dog walk but yes it's never absolutely necessary so I think I'll be avoiding it from now on. And it only takes a couple of minutes for someone to make off with him doesn't it .....
And I have a car so there's no excuse.
But thanks for the advice of how to use the lead - don't know why I never thought of that - sometimes the simple explanations are the ones which evade my brain ........
And what a gorgeous dog Zara is!! She's just beautiful!Marg

People have a point about not tying dogs up outside stores, I would never do it if I happened to have my dog in town with me but I live in a small village which just doesn't have the same risks so I'm happy to leave her for a couple of minutes if I need to grab something from the store. Anything longer than that and she gets dropped in at my grandparents while I go in though.0

I am very lucky, our local post office, newsagents and the doctors all let me take TJ in with me. They are they only places I go into in our village. If I need to go anywhere esle I leave him at home.

Where I live the local shop has six dog ties in a line and there can be one (or two) dogs per tie ... looks like a rehoming line up some mornings! I dont worry when I go in the shop ... cos my dog barks and BARKS AND BARKS ... even if someone is talking to her or petting her ... no one would want such a noisy dog0 -

Eeek, I couldn't tie my pair up outside a shop.
A. Someone could try to steal them.
B. The shop would get no customers for the duration of my time in there because people would either be staring at them and saying how wonderful they were or they would be too frightened to walk past them to get to the shop cos of their sheer size.
But the idea of looping the lead through is one I would use to secure them if needs be.2 angels in heaven :A0 -
Zara has got those difficult-to-keep-groomed "frilly knickers" too. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0

I used to tie my 2 dogs up outside the local small safeways, the collie cross would bark and bark, you could hear her in the middle of the store and I was never long, mainly because it felt like everyone knew she was mine and were staring, she was quiet the ,moment I got back to her. So embarrassing, so same excuse, no one would want her because she was so noisy.
The other a German Shepherd, would watch every individual leave the store to see if it was me coming back, one woman though I was being attacked by him, when he jumped up at me when I returned, because I'd left for that age long time of 5 mins if that. Good job he only jumped up at me and I was used to it. For someone to steal him, they'd have to fight, if they undid the lead then he would've just ran into the store and he's a strong dog, a wimp but strong.
And I always tied them up by unclipping the lead and looping it through the handle. Also only ever to grab a loaf or milk, never for a long time, despite their reaction.0 -
My parents GS used to jump at you when you came out of the shop, even if it was to go in for about a minute! And everyone was scared cos she had a Halti on......apart from the little kiddies who'd run up to her and give her a full hug cos she looked like a teddybear (very much like Zara, but the black and tan was reversed)
Now, the Patterdale just sits there.....and when my dad comes out of the shop he has to be careful....when she jumps up, she's the same height as his bits!** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.
