Zara has got those difficult-to-keep-groomed "frilly knickers" too.

    Oh yessssssssssssssssssssssssss

But - thanks to THIS particular board.... I am a proud owner of

    FURMINATOR

    Available on Amazon at:

OP- sorry, did not mean to hijack your thread but... actually you may want one of those thingys for your own dog :)

FURMINATOR is absolutely amazing - went through several various brushes but this one is out of this world for getting rid of the dead/fluff/underhair (whatever it is called.. the layer by the skin LOL) and does not damage the coat......

Have a look at DEMOS on this site:

    http://www.furminator.com/

It actually REALLY work like that LOL

Zara looks like if she came out of groomers after each brush.....

Can not remember who recommended this one on the sute here but THANKS A MILLION.....

And yes, if someone tried to unclip her from outside a shop she would not go with them, she would drag tem INTO the shop to find me, GS are very much "mum or dad oriented".

The worst I can do to confuse her completely is to leave home with say my daughter and then 2 of us splitting and going different directions - she is completely lost then.. poor girl....
  • I've been told by a few people that we would be ok to tie our dog up outside as no one would steal a big dog.

We have an 8 month old black german shepherd, I beg to differ!!!

(I wanted to post a picture of her, but I don't know how?!) :o

I use a normal lead but do not tie the knot - I unclip the lead, put it through the loop (the handle bit) round the lamp post (or something arond this strenght - got a GS LOL) and clip back on again.

Hope the above makes some sense?

Simple to do, more complicated to explain lol

This is what I do if I ever tie him up anywhere (usually the front garden while i'm out there)

I would never leave my dog outside a shop, as others have said. If he was stolen, I would be absolutely heartbroken and it would all be my fault. :o

If you want to go shopping or nip into a shop then why don't you take the dog home first after his walk? There is no way i'd risk leaving my dog outside a shop. Walk your dog yes but take him or her home and then go to the shop. I see so many dogs being tied outside a shop and so many have been taken from outside shops on order for puppy farms, dog baiting and just to return your dog when the reward has been announced. The owners only have themselves to blame if their dog goes missing and the Police, Rescue centres and Veterinary practices always highlight these risks.

I wouldn't just be worried about theft of the dog but what if the dog felt cornered and snapped at someone who comes up to pet it and your dog is accused of biting? Too risky imo.

I know of three dogs in our area in the last 2 years that have stolen from outside shops.

The law has very recently changed and a bill went through the House of Lords with regards to dangerous dogs which means the law is a lot stricter now about all dogs - the slightest minor incident could be argued that your dog has to be put to sleep. Typical that this new law is meant to protect attacks from dogs who have bad owners and yet its going to impact on all of us. Be very careful.

Perhaps someone on here has a link to the new law?
  • Yep you've all convinced me - no more tying him up because I don't need to. It's only ever been on the very odd occasion when I've been out walking him and suddenly remembered I need a pint of milk or a P&J or like the other day when I needed an application pack from a doctor's surgery for a job and it was en route home. But it would only take a minute for someone to make off with him .....

Also that time when the lead came undone freaked me out - a very kind woman came into the shop to tell me & told me her daughter was holding the lead for me. He loves people so absolutely fine but she was nuts in my opinion - I would NEVER have let my daughter go near an unattended dog just in case. However when I got out there was her friend with a King Charles spaniel and its owner a few feet away - again all was absolutely fine (and I've no idea why - he's not overfond of spaniels for some reason) but I was just sweating all the way back to work at the thought of what could have happened! It just wasn't worth it.

Who'd want to steal this numpty?? lol

Me and the B/F saw a huuuuuuge rotty tied up outside our local shop. I'm wary of unknown dogs (when I say wary I mean I'm scared of dogs on the whole until I know them!) but BF loves all dogs and looked at it and said 'oh hello, you are nice'. The dog was tied to the biffa bin (the big wheelie bins) but obviously thought my BF was a threat and dragged the bin across the street trying to get him. I dread to think what would have happenned to him if he had come untied. I should have asked them how they tied their lead as even a (i imagine) 9 stone rotty dragging a biffa bin didn't break that!

All ended without incident. I had managed to jump someones garden fence in my blind panic and was cowering in someones rose bush! BF was fine but when the owner came out they didn't even say a word. BF won't be saying hello to strange dogs in a hurry.

    Thank you!

Re the codes yes that's what I thought -and did - but I just ended up with the red cross. Tried both of the codes but same result. I'm sure it'll be something dead simple I'm doing - or not doing no doubt!
