Weird - personalised ipod. Scam?

Possibly somebody who knows your wife and has her contact details stored in the address book?

but if he only had address details how does he know the colour of and the message on the ipod??

I was stumped, but my OH had an idea (which seems rather simple now he's said it!) Ring security back, and ask them to switch it on and tell you what music tracks are on it. If it has her tracks on it, then it's hers, and she has some explaining to do. Alternatively, if they can't provide you with any names, or name something she wouldn't have on there, then they've obtained the information some other way. Simple

Here's what might have happened:

1. Wife secretly stays in hotel but leaves her iPod in the draw.
2. On realising the loss she buys a new iPod that looks exactly the same.
3. Cleaners find the original iPod and hand it into security.
4. Security looks at the records of who stayed in that room last and calls them.
