So true - so many people who barely step out of the way when I pull into the drive. Some people just stand their (with headphones on) whilst I reverse out until someone else pulls them out of the way.
We did try the safety route too but apparently someone has assessed that and it isn't a problem. Haven't attempted getting any focus groups on our side though.
What about environmental reason? I leave the house at rush hour, e.g. when there's loads of people boarding the bus. So, I reverse out, to find a bus in my way, then sit there for a good 2 minutes with my engine running. (OK, I could turn it off, but it's the same as traffic, you don't know how long you'll be waiting for.)
Thanks for the advice john. I think us and our neighbours have just gotten used to it now, as you say, it's been there for years now (although I was here since I was born!).0 -
No way would I consider reversing it in when the truck is right on the edge of the drop kerb *shudders*.
He can park it outside his own house then (yes he's been told and ignored it) Further more the opposite side of the road (outside his house) has white marked out lines for parking
But you'd reverse out blind under the same circumstances? If you reverse onto your drive you block off the road(or part of it) and people can see what you are doing. If you reverse out, you cannot see what is coming and cars aren't obliged to let you out.Its much, much safer to reverse on and drive off.Just read the recent threads about people reversing off and having accidents.0 -

HMMMMMMMM this sounds like my rd, i live in a smallish close of about 40 houses, most of the houses have 2 or more cars, weekend parking can be a bit of a nightmare ... my biggest peice of advice, buy the biggest mankiest Land Rover you can get, no one EVER blocked it in on my drive, nor blocked me from gettting it on ( i wonder why lol), plus when you get the '2 cars parked opposite each other, narrowing the rd somewhat' situation, they soon come out and move them when you try to squeeze thru .......˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ

You could just screenshot the smallest possible bit of it to illustrate rather than send the link, I doubt anyone but your neighbours would know where it is thenchoc_mouse wrote: »I would love to show it to you on google maps/street view but then I'd reveal where I live which is not so smart.

Point taken but the truck will be blocking my view when driving out from the driveway so still not safe.
Never mind, council have got back to my mum. They are looking at putting yellow lines her side of the road. Other side of road (truck driver owners side) already has marked out parking places.
Should make it much safer for everyone.0 -

Just had it pointed out to me in earlier post that you musnt reverse out of driveways :whistle:0 -
I am on a new estate and the cul de sac turning place has 4 bedroom townhouses on it. each has a small garage with a short drive. Only one person parks in the garage, a fiat Panda, everyone else parks on the drive, then their second car on the pavement and the kids cars blocking the turning area. Complained to council but they won't put yellow lines, I also asked how planning was given to build in such an obvious problem in a new estate but got nowhere. Visitors often have to park several hundred yards away!0

i had a debate with next door a few weeks ago i got myself a second car due to teaching my wife to drive (don't want her breaking my car)
anyway it had been parked for 2 days and he knocked on my door saying he had friends coming and they needed room to park there car ect and that i was being unfair taking up the parking spaces with 2 cars.
i told him to f**k off now why reading that you will think i am out of order i will point out i have a DRIVE way that holds 3 cars his issue is that his friends can't park on MY drive way as i have my own cars there
my drive can hold 3 cars at a push putting them 1inc off each bumper but i like room to get in and out he also has the same size drive full of house hold junk that he has been sorting out for 2 years
as ppl say these days just give up lol0
