Can I just have a moan about my street parking

Is it 2 tonne? (If over 3.5 they need operator's licence-only granted if operator can show off-street parking etc)"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0

I get so angry as a driver of a 2 ton truck persistently parks outside my mums house every evening and all weekend which makes it very difficult when picking and dropping her up for shopping, swimming, church etc. I have even parked there on a Friday afternoon thinking ha that's stopped him for the weekend as he had to park further up the road (which is not outside someones property btw) but when I go to my mums in the morning he has moved his truck back to outside mums
She has a driveway but this is a very busy main road with a school closeby and takes forever to back out of the driveway plus the truck is obstructing the view so taking my life in my hands each time this is attempted. Wish she never had the driveway put there really as the drop kerb makes it easier for the truck driver to mount the pavement
Have asked the council if a disabled bay can be put outside the house as mum has some mobility issues and has a blue badge but the council say no as she is not a wheelchair user. I tried explaining that if we have to park further up the road to pick and drop her off it is causing her discomfort but they dont take that into consideration.
Have also asked the traffic department about having yellow lines there as its a main road near a school. Still waiting for them to get back to me. But it's a month since I wrote to them with a follow up sent a few days ago asking why no reply
Someone has suggested writing to my local MP mentioning emergency vehicles will have problems getting through. So think that will be next on my agenda
Crazy idea, have you ever considered reversing onto to the drive? That way you won't be the cause of an accident when you blindly reverse off into "a very busy main road with a school nearby" and risk colliding with other road users through no fault of their own.
The truck driver might actually think he is doing the right thing parking in front of your mums if she doesn't have a car, that way not inconvenincing other neighbours with cars who actually live there.Whats's the big deal about it being 2 tons? There are cars heavier than that.0 -
No way would I consider reversing it in when the truck is right on the edge of the drop kerb *shudders*.
He can park it outside his own house then (yes he's been told and ignored it) Further more the opposite side of the road (outside his house) has white marked out lines for parkingWhats's the big deal about it being 2 tons? There are cars heavier than that.0 -
Nah, when the tickets start landing on windows, they post on MSE asking how to wriggle out of them!Pew_Pew_Pew_Lasers! wrote: »When the tickets start landing on windows, they'll soon move.
My gripe isn't so much about the garages as not many houses in my street have them. It's the empty driveways! A large van parks at the mouth of the cul-de-sac, but makes every effort to stay out of the way, mostly parking on his own grass. Along comes numpty neighbour (or numpty visitor) over the road and plops their jalopy directly opposite the van leaving just enough room for a mini to squeeze between the door mirrors of each vehicle. Ok, they may not want to damage their precious grass, but either side of this car are empty bloody driveways!!!
Next door neighbour (whom I try to get along with) sometimes parks one of their cars (they have two) in the hammerhead cul-de-sac partially across my drive too. Ok, I can squeeze by at an awkward angle and it's normally short term, but the nights he forgets (or can't be arsed) to move it when his missus comes home means it's still there the next morning when I go to work. Fair enough, you may have to shuffle cars around on a single file driveway with spouses/offspring, but please consider others and reposition as soon as you can.0 -
we have a small car park outside our house, and everything in it is mine woohoo!!!:A R.I.P. Dave "Simmo" Stimpson.....:AA friend, A Gentleman, and a Damn good pool player. You will be missedone in prison, not long enough0

Maybe you should buy some sacks of bird seed and remind them why they should park in their garage

We have 3 cars in our household. Can fit 2 in our driveway and 1 on the grass in front of the house. We share a drop curb with our neighbour who has 2 cars and one of them is a taxi. What's annoying is the council decided to paint a mini roundabout on our street, meaning they had to shift the bus stop a few metres up the road - spot bang in the middle of the drop curb that is used by us and our neighbour.
I don't see why they couldn't have gone the extra effort of painting it a further 4m along the road, where no drop curb exists and it doesn't block our drive every 10 minutes and doesn't block anyone elses either. I fear one day one of the 5 cars that constantly uses the driveway will plough through a load of people waiting for the bus!! They just sit there (yes on the pavement) even if we're indicating and gesturing that we want to get into our driveways!0 -

I'm honestly gonna go all victor meldrew and proclaim,
'I don't belieeeeeeeve it!'
How can a council be so short sighted?
Have you tried taking this up with your local councillor?0 -

I would love to show it to you on google maps/street view but then I'd reveal where I live which is not so smart.
We wrote to the appropriate department at our council saying no notice was given and it was an inappropriate place to relocate the bus stop. Can't remember their reply exactly (about 8 years ago) but they basically said they don't care. Just 1 person complaining doesn't make much of an impact.
We also asked our local councillor (during their election campaign) to talk to the people in charge adding things like the bus stop has devalued our house. The response from the people in charge was that if they moved the bus stop then it just shifts the problem to the next household.... seems like they didn't really come and look at the street as the next drive way is a good 15m down the road.0 -

I have had a few dealings with my local council/councillor. I can say from personal experience that they are not interested in the value of your house, if anything, if they sniff a NIMBY attitude they go out of their way to inconvenience you.
Obviously this has went on for some time but if it was me, I'd have gone down the safety route. It can't be safe having a bus stop on a dropped kerb, there's the issue of passing close to queuing passengers as well as the fact the bus must block your drive every time it stops. One person engaging the council might not have much clout but if you got in touch with one of those passenger focus groups, they might have acted on your behalf!0
