Can I just have a moan about my street parking

And we then come on to the question of why people are stupid enough to spend ridiculous sums like £180,000 on a house with a garage that's too small to put a car in, and a house that's not big enough for all their possessions to necessitate utilising the garage for them. And they feel like they have achieved something by owning the house :eek:0

I understand why people don't use their garages (too small for car, full of junk etc) but don't understand why drivers choose to leave their cars on the roadside rather than park in a drive outside their house. Happens all the time in my area and when it's icy it's terrible trying to avoid them." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

This country is turning into one great big car park!
I got home one afternoon to find a strange car parked on my drive, called the Police and they (somehow) got in touch with the driver who eventually came and moved the car. Turned out a neighbour who they were visiting thought it would be ok to park on my drive for the day?!?!
It's mostly down to selfishness and thoughtlessness.From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -

Every house has at least 2 parking spaces - a garage and a drive. We are lucky and have 3 :-) in that our 'garage' is a carport that goes right through into our back garden. But...no one else uses their garage for parking. Literally no-one, they are all full of 'stuff' instead. That means there are cars parked up on the pavements all the way round the hammerhead where there isn't an actual drive entrance. These go right up to the exit of the road, and then 3 people park their cars on the pavement round the corner, and one of those is a big van, so you have to pull out in the morning totally blind and unable to see if anything is coming.
I've been trapped on my own drive before now with one car right up to dropped curb one way, one car parellel up on the dropped curb/pavement that goes round our house and the hammerhead (so parked exactly next to our car) and one opposite the end of our drive. I can't get out without smashing the front of my car on the front wall of the house.
Trouble is, all the neighbours are nice people, and move their cars if we are stuck and I don't want to start a war, but it's getting on my nerves big time. Why can't they park in their sodding garages!
Oh and never mind when I had a delivery truck unable to get in past all the cars parked at the road entrance and I knocked and asked one man to move his car. No, he said, and slammed the door in my face! So ok, not all the neighbours are nice, but the ones parking right round are drive are...
It was worse when next door was a lodging house with 5 people all with cars living there, can you believe.
Anyhoo...can't see any solution other than slowly grinding me teeth to dust
Contact the local council, police, and fire service, and ask the latter if they can get their fire truck up your street.
If not, the cars are an obstruction. When the tickets start landing on windows, they'll soon move.0 -

I couldn't agree more!
I stopped at Lidl today for a few groceries and even though I have issues walking I can still manage the distance from the car parking to the shop... If I couldn't then how would I manage the distance of walking round the shop for the food may I ask??? So anyway, as I was trying to drive off some totally inconsiderate bast*rd parks his Citroen Berlingo right in front of the shop- on the juction to exit the car park. This forced me to exit the car park on the wrong side of the road going into the roundabout. Do people not think about the impact of thier actions or is it just that they couldn't care less about concepts like public safety and fair play?
What's even more irritating is he hopped out of the car and briskly trotted into the shop with no apparent dificulty at all. Now what possible "need" is there for that? The car park was two thirds empty and the nearest space was around 20 paces from there- which was less than the distance from his car to the end of the first aisle.
And while I'm in the mood- pavements are put there so people can walk on them. If a road is too narrow to park on- then DON'T. :mad:I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

Where I live and where I'm currently parked there is a sign put there by the council informing you to park completely on the pavement with nice white lines indicating parking bays.
Other councils nearby have signs stating that you should park half on the pavement with nice white lines indicating parking bays.
I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I get so angry as a driver of a 2 ton truck persistently parks outside my mums house every evening and all weekend which makes it very difficult when picking and dropping her up for shopping, swimming, church etc. I have even parked there on a Friday afternoon thinking ha that's stopped him for the weekend as he had to park further up the road (which is not outside someones property btw) but when I go to my mums in the morning he has moved his truck back to outside mums
She has a driveway but this is a very busy main road with a school closeby and takes forever to back out of the driveway plus the truck is obstructing the view so taking my life in my hands each time this is attempted. Wish she never had the driveway put there really as the drop kerb makes it easier for the truck driver to mount the pavement
Have asked the council if a disabled bay can be put outside the house as mum has some mobility issues and has a blue badge but the council say no as she is not a wheelchair user. I tried explaining that if we have to park further up the road to pick and drop her off it is causing her discomfort but they dont take that into consideration.
Have also asked the traffic department about having yellow lines there as its a main road near a school. Still waiting for them to get back to me. But it's a month since I wrote to them with a follow up sent a few days ago asking why no reply
Someone has suggested writing to my local MP mentioning emergency vehicles will have problems getting through. So think that will be next on my agenda

Could be worse..... Could have a Transit Van with a Trailer and Digger on the back parked outside......
Imagine that:D0 -
They'd change their tune if a house was on fire and they couldn't get a fire truck or ambulance up the street.

What annoys me is the people down my street who have more than one car and have them all parked out in the lane. One in front of their house and another in front of someone elses. These people are also the first to complain when someone has parked in front of their house. When it happens.0
