Can I just have a moan about my street parking

I live in a little cul-de-sac of 10 houses that is hammer shaped. We live right on one round corner of the hammer (back gardens of another street on the other corner). Every house has at least 2 parking spaces - a garage and a drive. We are lucky and have 3 :-) in that our 'garage' is a carport that goes right through into our back garden. But...no one else uses their garage for parking. Literally no-one, they are all full of 'stuff' instead. That means there are cars parked up on the pavements all the way round the hammerhead where there isn't an actual drive entrance. These go right up to the exit of the road, and then 3 people park their cars on the pavement round the corner, and one of those is a big van, so you have to pull out in the morning totally blind and unable to see if anything is coming.

I've been trapped on my own drive before now with one car right up to dropped curb one way, one car parellel up on the dropped curb/pavement that goes round our house and the hammerhead (so parked exactly next to our car) and one opposite the end of our drive. I can't get out without smashing the front of my car on the front wall of the house.

Trouble is, all the neighbours are nice people, and move their cars if we are stuck and I don't want to start a war, but it's getting on my nerves big time. Why can't they park in their sodding garages!

Oh and never mind when I had a delivery truck unable to get in past all the cars parked at the road entrance and I knocked and asked one man to move his car. No, he said, and slammed the door in my face! So ok, not all the neighbours are nice, but the ones parking right round are drive are...

It was worse when next door was a lodging house with 5 people all with cars living there, can you believe.

Anyhoo...can't see any solution other than slowly grinding me teeth to dust

Although I don't have your specific problem OP. You are starting to sound like me and my old mate Victor Meldrew.

Either get an ulcer or take up smoking weed....;)

How about getting the kidds to scrape their bike handlebars down the sides of the cars on the pavement?

Park outside on the pavement. Only do it first.

RE the neighbour who wouldn't move, you can always call the police and report him for obstructing the road.

It reminds me of a friend at work who lives on a road with little parking and a school on it.He arrived home to find a mum parked on his drive. He parked in front of his drive, blocking her in, went inside and opened a tinny. She came banging on the door asking if he'd blocked her in(on his drive!) and he replied yes.So she told him to shift it and he replied he couldn't as he would then be drink driving and she was stuck there for the night. She didn't do it again.

Yes why do people have garages and not use them.
Same where I live, they use the parking spaces up instead of using their garage, leaving the ones with no garage, nowhere to park but on the pavement.

    Hi

    My own little rant...

My car won't fit in my garage, new build houses the garage isn't really designed to take a car, far too small for your average car. Supermini size only. But then I have a driveway which luckily isn't blocked. Although I have come home and been unable to get my car on my drive as a neighbours house party guests had decided that as their drive was full they would park on mine!! I was thinking about blocking them in, but was too angry and just banged on the door and blasted them, they didn't think they did anything wrong....some people!

Round here (in my culdesac) I am disliked because I park our car on the road. This is because I cannot get the car between the ridiculously narrow gateposts (previous occupants didn't have a car) and, as it's rented, I'm not permitted to knock the gateposts down. I'm not buying a smaller car just to suit!

No one in my road uses their garage for parking because they are far too small for cars. My husband drives a Punto - hardly the biggest car in the world - and he can't even get his doors open inside the garage. He considered buying an Alfa 156 at one stage and we measured the garage to see if the car would fit. It wasn't even long enough to get the whole car in, let alone manage to get out of it. Nobody has a driveway and everyone has two cars per household, so everyone parks outside their garage and all along the road including on the bends at T junctions and the road is a total nightmare.

We also have the problem that there is absolutely no storage whatsoever in these houses. Not even a little cupboard under the stairs for the hoover. So everyone uses their garage to store stuff like their lawnmower.

Oh how I would love a proper sized garage that you could actually keep a car in.

Oh one of my pet hates, we actually have double yellow lines outside our house, over our drive BUT our nextdoor neighbour still will park across my drive , even though there is a none double yellow lined space clear infront of their house, they would have to get out onto grass verge, so I think they dont want to get designer trainers dirty.

I just speak loudly, usually embarreses them enough for a few weeks, although once I saw some cops on beat round the corner and told them
