Yes that's it ta !! They did put some meat in but said you couldnt taste it and I would leave it out and just use the rest. With that amount of booze in it it's bound to taste nice

Hello everyone
I've been reading this thread on and off through the day and have just got to the end, I'd love to join your merry gang if I may. I'd love to be self sufficient, sadly life doesn't always play fair, now I've got the time but I've also got fibromyalgia which affects the amount I can do. I have to hang my head and confess I have even started buying bulk packs of frozen chopped veg as it's easier for me nowbut I do try to do what I can and love hand made over shop brought any time. I have a bread maker, so do my own bread and I like to batch cook when able as this is brilliant for days I can't cook.
I'm blessed (I think?) with a large garden and most of the bottom of that is given over to fruit, there is; Tayberries, black/white/red currants, blueberries, rhubarb, jostaberries, gooseberries, blackberries, figs. In trees I've got 3 types of apples, cherry, pear, green gage, peach. A green house that is falling down so has only tomatoes in it, runner beans and a herb garden. I wasn't able to collect most of the berry fruit this year, though a relative came over one day and took quite a bit. At least I like to think the birds enjoy the fruitand the bit I did get either got eat fresh or has gone in the freezer or the gooseberries in to curd.

Just been out again - twice in one day! Went to wilkies and poundland got next years seeds for 75% off at wilkies and 19p a pack at poundland - result! Am happy bunny today. Thinking on the REALLY oldstyle theme, what about mincemeat for xmas ? I'm watching the Escape to the Past series on iPlayer and one of the ladies said she absolutely hated mince pies - but once she had tasted the real Victorian version she loved it. Said it was nothing like the stuff you get now. I was wondering how we could find out the recipe and try to re-create it ...?

All I want from Roman lakes is Dh to bring back some crayfish - apparently they just kill them as they are pests - :eek: and they are soo good to eat! Although I guess if he finds some relics I will disappear to Barbados and you guys will never hear from me again!!! Reading Mrs Bones post about having fibromyalgia, I too have this but still have to work and study. I know only too well the pain and exhaustion that comes with that. Before that worked full time as I am a lone parent so no other income.
However I too, like all of you, would LOVE to grow my own things - but I start out well then am too overwhelmed to tend things and it becomes a mess! How can I make an ORGANISED start?
I planted potatoes, and all I got back were the ones I put in! Tomatoes were lovely, but not many of them. Strawbs eaten by birds and/or creatures despite netting! Peppers also eaten.
I live in a rough area and a greenhouse wouldn't last two minutes.
Only successfully grown chives, basil, parsley.
I'm happy cooking, baking, creating stuff. Bit scared of bottling, jars etc cos of maybe not sterilising properly, getting mould etc.
In Scotland, temperature fluctuates a little - not a lot of sun!
Need help - maybe I need to start in babysteps - and KEEP GOING !Finally Debt Free (£8k to zero) yay! :j :j
