Nowt wrong wi my brain nooo. Well no more than usual ! Headlines on Sky website today about the unions calling for summit of union leaders to get organised to fight the cuts. better stash faster everybody ! The winter of 78/79 everybody was on strike & I was in hospital having my youngest, We had no milk for the babies at one point, they were asking husbands to bring it in. No nappies, no laundry, no nothing. The lorry drivers were out & the shops ran out of things. Hopefully it won't get that bad but you never know. The govt might find that so many people are desperate now, and desperate people will stand and fight.
I might get some more milk, UHT and powdered. And salt. And candles. LOL !

Now my reply button has returned I can waffle to my hearts content :D

I have made yogurt:j very tasty it is too, but I don't have a wide neck flask so I used an ordinary one.
Not the smartest of moves :o just need to allow plenty of time for it to come out.

Re Spinning, I did a 1 day course on that many moons ago, problem was my mind kept wandering, and I ended up in a bit of a tangle, so gave up, but a very cleaver skill if you have the concentration.

I have a child's flower press, it has the flowers in from the first bunch of flowers hubby gave me, and a few others during the first few years together including my wedding flowers.
It got full up very quickly and just sits in a box in the loft, so a winter project maybe to turn them into a picture for the wall, at least I will be able to see them, so thanks for that idea Mar :T

Not surprised you've ended up on the sofa, that was a very energetic couple of weeks you had, wore me out just reading what you were upto.
Won't do you any harm to put your feet up for a few days and think very OS rather do it ;)

Hi Mardatha, hope you are feeling better soon. Do you know anyone who does reiki and could send you some healing over the ether?

Well Mardatha, as I have just said on the 'its tough etc' thread I think we are in for a winter of discontent, the unions have to prove they are value for money, if you add up all the subscriptions they have had over the years someone is going to start asking what are they going to do for their members, and obviously the tories are their sworn enemies. I remember the 78/79 days well and it was really stressful. Now most people are totally dependant on Mr T and co they will be b***ered. But not us on O/S we are already ahead of the game! Sorry to hear you are laid up but at least you are able to feed us information and spur us on.

Time to get pickling, freezing, drying and stocking up guys:D

Am off on my CS travels this week if I see a flower press I will pick one up for you. :)

fold the flowers inside a piece of tissue paper and pop between the pages of a book - then pile up lots of heavy books on top, you'll need to keep adding weight to make sure the flowers dry out properly. failing that - i'm sure 'proper' flower presses could be made - have a go0gle and you'll see what I mean? Hope this helps a little.:o

Thanks for this Babychick - can I ask a (probably silly) question? How long do you need to press it for? A few days / weeks?

It takes a few weeks usually - you need to make sure that all the water in the petals is pressed out otherwise they'll lose their colour when you try to craft with them. obviously, larger flower heads (roses, carnations etc) take longer to dry out and press down than pansies and suchlike.:)

Thanks Babychick - what sort of flowers press the best, in your opinion?

imo (fwiw) smaller flowers press better - it's always nice if they have a pretty shape to them - sweet peas, pansies, primroses usually press well - ivy leaves are very pretty too if you're making some kind of picture. Maybe someone else has some suggestions too...:o
