Well Kittie - let us know if you manage to source a stainless steel canner in Britain...

I'm still hoping for the chance to "can" stuff - and won't use aluminium.

Thankfully I've got that dehydrator now - so shall major on preserving things that way - but I could still do with a decent canner and decent (sugar-free) methods for canning (ie for soft fruit and for vegetables that I cant stand if dried - but would accept if they were bottled - thinks: carrots and potatoes for instance).

Talking of kitting, all being well I should have several sheep fleeces when they have been sheared [shorn] in June. Ideas? I'm saving up for a dehydrator too,and things to plant on the veg patch, its half allotment size and i've realised I cannot grow all I would like to grow there so am having to rationalise tihngs. For example no maincrop potatoes and only 2 courgette plants. I need to get posts and wires too for raspberry canes. Things take up more room and time than you think.

Plus in long boring winter days it's easy to get carried away with ideas...different when you need to get the work done :) There are groups on Ravelry who buy and sell and trade fleeces.... or you could learn how to cure and make yourself a bedside rug.....or buy a spinning wheel and do a "sheep to sweater" LOL

Couldnt find the original link - so googled for "Shaun Chamberlin" and "energy rationing" (couldnt even find my own post saying we will need population control in conjunction with this - as otherwise peoples "rations" will be cut as further "extra" people get born, ie those who already have 2 children having more, and a high level of immigration into Britain would have to stop as well) and found:

One pound eighty a litre -guess Im going to pushing OH around a lot in his wheelchair when it goes up that much :eek::eek: We used to spend a tenner to go to my mums now we have to put in 12.50. I cannot even imagine how much that will cost when they hike the price up. Sadly we have to have a car that fits a wheelchair in and all our necessities. We had a Punto but it was impossible, especially as we stupidly bought a 2 door! Now we have a Ford something or other which is fine and dandy. The other option is go for Diesel which we plan to do next year. But I imagine bus fares will go up too so its swings and roundabouts. Oh well I had best go and plan my garden out and bury my head in the sand - or I could register my disgust by writing a strongly worded letter to.... the prime minister? Yes just in the mood for writing a letter.

My life is like an episode of the Good Life most days so yes episode 200 - the horse and cart :rotfl:

I have now converted our hyperactive Dgs to soya milk - aaah peace at last - his dad was reticent to accept my verdict ( Ive had Dgs's mother for 27 years so Im pretty good at spotting the dairy allergy) but after I offered to pay for the milk for a trial period he caved! Bonus is even the instant porridge (hangs her head in shame ) is milk free so Michael really enjoys his brekkie now and I know he will be even healthier :T

    Had a very O/S day...
    1. bread made and rising
2.Sc bubbling away with tomorrow nights chilli
    3. big batch of scones (pack from approved foods 2 for 1, think it was 1.50 for 3.5 kg of mix, in stove while bread cooks.
    4. making bookmarks for spring sale at donkey sanctuary from scraps of thread and Aida

Am feeling satisfied I am doing my best and that Im lucky I have time to do it all.

I am definitely going over to diesel. I need a 4WD anyway (we have decided, after I couldn't use my car AT ALL in the recent unpleasantness because it just isn't designed to travel down six feet wide roads which have been a) covered in mud from the pigs, b) then frozen, c) then snowed on d) then thawed and flooded by all the snow melting and e) become full of killer potholes because of a),b),c) and d) above) so we are thinking of buying a cheapo old one later this year and SORNing my little car for the winter next year. So whatever we buy will need to be diesel and not new as this will enable it to run on either biodiesel or waste vegetable oil or a combination of both, which is what DH runs his Hilux Surf on now. Only I want something about half the size of that. Hairdresser's car, anyone?
