Really? I must be a Southern wimp then :rotfl:

Just about every time I've have a blood test in my adult life, it always shows that I'm either anaemic or bordering on anaemic and it's been suggested to me by doctors several times to drink guinness because it's rich in iron. I tried once about 20 years ago, and again about 2 years ago, but I can't finish a can/bottle, it's so incredibly bitter - well, to my taste buds anyway.

That's why I'm concerned that freezing it might make it even worse.

I was told to drink guiness when pg but didn't like the taste either; then got told to try Mackesons stout which comes in little 330ml cans

Went on our local market again today(next to Mr T) am trying valiantly to avoid Mr T especially when I only want a couple of items. We needed sugar - 98p in Mr T's - 79p on market. Success's small but we are getting there. They also had large boiling chickens 3.99 - am going to think about that one.

I wish we had a local market. Most of the stallholders on our market (weeklong) just sell the same stuff as the main stores and very little that is local. Mostly poor quality clothing.

Ginnyknit...wish I could find a boiling fowl, they seem to have dropped out of circulation completely here, used to find them great value and flavoursome.

Thought the thread needed resurrecting before it drifts away!!

So how is everyone doing with stock cupboards ready for winter? I have just moved everything into the pantry ready for the onslaught of the builders and it looks very healthy in there. Been to Mr M and their veg stew pack is only 50p which has nearly filled the slo cooker, going to use it as soup for lunch and base for a tater hash on Thursday.

My kitchen contents are now living in the shed for the next few weeks and I miss them :( Going to have to rely on my wits as I will be kitchen less (allegedly!) for nearly a week - see, I should have an open fire in the living room for just such an occasion. The problem is we have to stay out of the house all day Monday as they are doing the re-wire and we havent a clue what to do with ourselves. I guess an hour in the library is a start, then we might find somewhere cheap for lunch. Really don't want to spend money or use up petrol for the day. Sadly I lost all my friends when I decided to give up work and Dd is out all day. Im sure I will come up with something to do for free - another challenge to be beaten then!

There is this link on another forum http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-museums-and-art-galleries

And someone else posted up about 6 museums and galleries that are free. Could you keep warm by visiting a few and taking a packed luch and thermos soup?

Think that the plan will be to spend afternoon at dd's, Im just not getting on well will Sil at the mo but needs must!

Mardatha maybe supplies of wool were cheaper in O/S days and sugar too cos thats the main thing stopping me making glorious preserves is lack of funds. Also I can only make pressies out of whats in my wool bag. I do have other craft stuff in great supply for cards etc but am not in the frame of mind to be creative:(
