Ive still not been shopping! its been a week now since my last trip -sounds like an AA speech! My names Ginny and Im addicted to bargain hunting - YAY theres nothing wrong with that comes the cry from the audience:rotfl:
Anyway let me be sensible - we have lived off the contents of the fridge etc for a week now and theres still stuff left. I am amazed. I must actually bake a cake soon as we are short of sweet stuff and have just scoffed a tube of Rolo's Dh had hidden :T
The thing is - theres still no room in the freezer which was the whole point of the excercise????
Hope you find a way of feeding your DD Mardatha,Ii had a friend who was in a similair pickle and I used to put a tray of food on the table while we nattered and she used to pick it up and nibble without thinking. Is there anything that she would eat like that - bowl of fruit chopped and a bit of oaty tray bake - its a start. Its very easy to stop eating although I am a large lady I have a terrible appetite especially when Im on my own (or when I was working).Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -

Sounds like you also need to get some fat into her - meat is fine for that.
Puddings. Avoid eggs and cream (can make mucus worse) and go for non-diary icecreams with a sauce over them (half a mars bar melted down makes a sticky chocolate sauce). Suet puddings possibly? Things like flapjack she can nibble?
Also supplement with vitamins and minerals in the short-term.
And have ready things she can suck like hard toffees to get some extra calories in her.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
O my god. If only somebody would tell me to eat melted down mars bars on ice creams ...:EasterBunbut nobody ever has !! I have told her what vits to take and suet dumplings is a good idea. I will also get her some of those pkt porridge mixes so she just has to add milk. I know Ginny, once you stop eating then it gets quite hard to start again. I was like that for ages - didnt lose any bloody weight though !
EDITED-

Been baking today sat here munching shortbread
Mardatha does she take sugar in her coffee as glucose is an appetite stimulant as well I think so that may help? How about things like southern fried chicken strips easy and cheap to make fresh but also on sale usually in Iceland or Tesco's..um scrambled eggs, boiled eggs..maybe some homemade sausage rolls as you can make these really little..
DS2 has to start with small bits after his ops and loves marmite on toast cut into small squares. If she likes marmite you can try making a batch of bread dough spreading it with marmite, cut into strips and twist (like cheese straws) bake for about 10 mins.
Kiwi lol hiya sis!! :rotfl: There is NOTHING better than cheese and crackersespecially at midnight!

Mardatha, see what you can find out about vitamin D as I have read that it is really helpful for the immune system - but maybe you already know all about that as you mention vits. I do have a really old (1914) cookbook and it does indeed have an Invalid Cookery section but not sure your daughter would thank you for "peptonised gruel" or "toast water"!
I imagine it is rather hard to feed up a 41yr old daughter who presumably doesn't live with you and does her own cooking. I did wonder though if she really likes her meat, whether that means she doesn't eat much in the way of carbs? And whether, if you could persuade to eat a bit more, it would bump up her insulin production which might boost her appetite? Me, I am trying to do the opposite!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -
I managed to make an interesting dinner last night, despite having no inspiration or inclination when I got home. I had taken out 2 small chicken breasts from the freezer, but had to go rooting in the cupboard to see what to make. I pulled out a jar of thai green curry paste, and found a bottle of fish sauce hiding too - so decided to be brave and try both. I got some broad beans and peas from the freezer, the half red onion DH had left over from night before, half a courgette and half a patty pan squash in the fridge (all HG), and a tin of coconut milk (I DO actually use those in other curries, so that wasn't as bad on dates as the paste or sauce), and cooked them all together with the chicken and served with rice. Quite interestingly nice (although I could have put more punch into the spice - I didn't want it too hot first time).
I have no ideas for tonight yet. I know I have loads I could make, but don't know what I will yet. But I NEED to do more storecupboard cooking to get the stocks down of the strange things as well as regularly used things.
I brought in the egg carton I emptied last night to work, as someone here has chickens in her back garden but can't face eating eggs since seeing them laid. As it happened, she brought me in a carton of eggs this morning too!! So I am delighted with that. 6 fresh eggs laid yesterday and day before!! Yum! (Only slight problems is that I had bought a dozen lsat weekend that I haven;t started yet. So perhaps something eggy is an idea - actually, I might try pastry-free quiches in a muffin tray for lunches).
I have been looking at the challenges (in between the manic workdays). Dealing with a puncture is fine - my mum taught all of us as we learned to drive (that was Dad's job, the driving, Mum concentrated on the tyres) and for a period her typres were bad so we all ended up doing them a few times. And I remember having to change one on a FILTHY rotten rainy Christmas Eve night, when driving to PIL's house alone (then Fiance was just home for Hols) and just out of next town into pitch black on dual cariageway. I had JUST got the new tyre on when 2 blokes stopped to help and they kindly tightened the nuts. (Never any point waiting for the AA man, as I was always finnished ages before they'd arrive, even if I WAS a woman alone!! LOL!!). Future MIL was highly impressed when I arrived covered in muck and grease (seriously!).
No electricity would be OK - we have a shelf of board games, pack of cards, jigsaws, in the bookcase in sitting room. (Comes from years of self-catering hols when we were younger, so I always have a few distractions). And plenty of candles too. We have both gas and electric cooking, gas CH and an open fire (coal bunker refilled recently), and lots of spare rugs to keep warm. And I now know how to manage using tealights if need be for cups of tea (thanks Mardatha!). The bad weather last Christmas burst a LOT of pipes locally and, while we weren't affected, we had taken the precaution of buying 4 bottles of still water just in case, which we haven't touched yet (Mr T basics so good for another couple of years and v cheap). And we have a water butt out the back garden for plants, but we had made plans to use this for toilets etc with a bucket.
General stores are OK for short duration events, and even for those lasting a few weeks (I know I have a carton of milk powder that I could use for tea, if I REALLY had to). But we'd feel it pretty quickly on the fruit/fresh veg and milk fronts. I CAN bake bread, just don't, but if the oven was off, we could make flat breads on the pan using tealights if the gas was also off.
And since there was so much uncertainty last summer, I had a small stash of cash in the house, to last a month if the ATMs stopped working (I know it was never a SERIOUS likelihood, but I always feel better having some emergency cash).
My current plan is to use up the storecupboard bits, especially the weireder things, so that I can do a major stores shop in the next 4-8 weeks. (I travel up north to do that). This means before the main Chirstmas rush, and the bad weather. So I then can avoid the stores a lot during the manic season, but also be prepared in case there is a repeat of last winter's weather.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

You sound like you're equipped for anything Winged One! Off topic - but have you seen there's a Dublin meet up at the end of October I think? There'a a thread on OS about it. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2739106
I haven't been doing the challenges. I'm reasonably well-prepared and could cope with the kinds of things that have happened in the past - minor powercuts, water shortages and harsh weather. But am not so well sorted fo rmore major stuff like Armageddon and Zombie Apocolypses.
Avert your eyes and block your ears Mardatha my pretty ... you know what's coming! It seems I made an absolute mountain of lovely colcannon with very delicious KALE - this is my third day eating it. I'm thinking of turning the last bit into sort of colcanney potato cakes by adding a bit of flour, egg and grated cheese. So that will take care of dinner tonight. Yum!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

I've started on the Vit D as well as my other vitamins, heard it was good for ME and it's hard to get enough in the diet and I'm certainly not getting it from sunshine! How much do you take M? If only there was an RDA for chocolate.
Am going to check out prices for stocking up on bulk dried stuff today - the trick will be organising a lift cos there's no way I'll carry it all!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
