Facebook harassment

Go to the Police. In the UK there are two acts that can help with this;
1. The Protection From Harassment Act
2. The Telecommunications Act
Results vary force to force - but it usually ends up with (at least) a written warning under (1) or a fixed penalty notice of £60 under (2). Repeat offence become more serious. Don't suffer it - report it and chase it with the Police. That's why they are there ;-)
Even if theyre in another country?:idea:0 -
It depends where the person is, but that becomes the problem for the Police. It may be they cannot do a thing - but at least they can contact Facebook in a legal capacity and that may work wonders.0

[QUOTE=Jo
yet they are still able to respond to her comments on mutual friends statuses.QUOTE]
This means you have friends that are on their facebook .. ask one of them to give you their facebook profile link .. found on the information page.
Also that means that you haven't set your facebook settings to friends only settings you have it set as friends and friends of friends.0 -
Tell the relative to block them. If I saw someone on my friends list harassing a relative of mine on posts I'd made I'd be blocking them the first time they did it.Sigless0

This is cyberbullying. Go to the police, please follow the advice here from the other posters. This can get worse and cyberbullying is 24/7.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

If you know their facebook name (i.e., what they are listed as on facebook), just type that into the block user box in the privacy settings. This stops them interacting with you.
However, it doesn't stop them posting stuff on friends' pages/photos/etc, where you are tagged.0 -
Delete the offending user from the friends list, and lock the account down properly (ie, friends only) - not really difficult.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0

You cannot find someone when you search for them if they are already blocked:)
The problem here is someone seems to be blocking them, but occasionally unblocking, sneaking in a random nasty comment, and then blocking again. What she needs is a way of blocking someone who has already blocked you. None of the other settings seem to stop them doing things.
I think what she's gonna do is report them using a fake account as the nasty users can be found this way0 -

Errm.. you cant delete a user when they have blocked you. This means they are no longer your friend anyway and you cant search for them to delete or block.
Its not as simple as deleting the mutual friend either. I'm very grateful for the replies that are helpful but if it was as simple as deleting the mutual friend or just changing setttings then this would have been done and i wouldnt have come here for advice.
THese people are sneaky to have blocked her so they cannot be found by my friend to do anything about. But occasionallly it seems that they are unblocking her, having a look at any comments she has made on mutual friends statuses, making nasty responses to them, deleting them, and then blocking her again.
The only way she finds out what is said after the comment is deleted is by checking her email notifications on hotmail of the comment that was made. The way they get around the mutual friend not realising whats going on is that they are a new user who doesnt "get" facebook so they dont think anything of it when they cant find a new comment that has actually been deleted.
The privacy settings are all set to friends only. Nothing seems to cover mutual friends.
The mutual friend shouldnt have to just be deleted as its a relative who my friend doesnt want to involve. Its just a complicated story and i kind of wish i never started this thread for some of the replies i've got on here and i'm sorry if it sounds trivial but its far from it. It just shows you how often harrassment isnt taken seriously. Why should she have to just leave FB and forget about it?
I'm surprised at Facebook not replying when we've asked for help with this issue although i'm sure they have lots of cases of bullying to deal with.
She is aware of the fact that police appparently can help but she wanted to be sure she had closed all avenues of contact first. It would be easy if there was a way to block someone who has blocked you but there doesnt appear to be.0
