Belt and shoe storage both found, shoes packed away. I've also brought mum's accounts up to date and remembered to pay in a cheque, bought a couple of stocking-filler-type pressies and got 7 pears for 50p, among other shopping.

Fish fingers for tea tonight - I haven't had those for ages!

Stil putting off the letter writing - Dh says he'll help me. :) Why does it paralyse me?

My Dad used to clean his shoes every Sunday evening and we were encouraged to join in. As he was in the RAF he had VERY high standards it and it really was a chore. But it is so much easier nowadays with the sponge applicator things most of the time and a proper polish once a year.

Sour milk is excellent for scones, you just use it instead of normal milk.

And what is the problem with the letter writing???? Can I help?

Thanks Maty. :) Do you just use the sour milk as it comes or do you have to warm it and add lemon juice or something? Or am I mixing it up with cottage cheese? :D

The Armed Forces undoubtedly have amazingly shiny shoes. I bet your Dad taught you well. I believe traditional polish makes shoe leather last longer, too - the canvas shoes (which are currently back in the washing machine) never stood a chance really. Bleaching has had very little effect so I'll just attack them with the shoe whitener when they're dry again.

I don't know what it is with the letters, I seem to go into almost complete shut-down yet as you may have noticed, I'm not normally stuck for words. I've got together the letters to and from the original company and the details of the phone calls to them, which has taken me all evening and only got done because DS wanted the computer (and will want it again soon). I will have a go at drafting a letter now the searching for where I filed things is over, and I'll shout if it doesn't happen!

You just use the sour milk as it comes, it doesn't need lemon juice as that would turn it sour is it wasn't already!

Don't ask me why but it does make better scones :D

Is'nt that funny, shoes were always polished on a sunday evening, in our house, too. My dad was also in the RAF, although i never understood how it came about as he hated flying :rotfl: He never flew in his life, and he refused to travel abroad. The only time i remember him travelling abroad, was a visit to amsterdam, via a north sea ferry, for some wedding anniversary or other. :rotfl:

But the shoe polishing has stuck with me, not on sunday evenings, but everyday. I'm amazed at the amount of people you see wearing work suits and the scruffiest shoes you've ever seen. Does it never occur to them, or is it just me? There's no point in wearing your smartest suit if your shoes are covered in mud or whatever.

There's something seriously wrong with me. First point of call look into someone's eyes, secondly, look at their shoes/ footwear. I won't say what the third thing is. :rotfl:

Ascertain whether they wait 365 days and stay up all night to be the first to click on a website?! :D

No sour milk available now that I want to make make scones... :(

Maty - I wrote the letter! I still have to fill in a couple of details which I can get easily but which weren't to hand when I was frantically tying last night, but that's do-able.

Still a bit down and I've worked out it's because I'm off to Mum's old house to sort out a few more things as of tomorrow. It brings back the rootless and wrenched out of place feeling. :( Never mind, I'll be back home in a couple of days and now I'm getting together an action plan so I can make good use of the time (and hopefully not have to go again for a while).

No TV or computer there so I am taking plenty of Sudukos. :) And she has thousands of books.

Yay to letter being written :D

OK, so now you want sour milk - just add lemon juice to normal milk. Or make scones with normal milk, they will be fine :)

Sorry you are feeling down about the trip to your Mum's house. I know we shouldn't wish our life away but in two days you will be back home and the experience will be behind you ;)

From a purely selfish point of view, i'll miss you, miggy.

Having cleared out my parents home, which was also the family home where i grew up, as well as my own home, i know how you are feeling.

A big hug to you, ( albeit cheesy ) :grouphug:

Sorry, its the best i can do, but my thoughts will be with you. xx

Thanks Ani. :) You are allowed to be purely selfish sometimes. :D
