    Ooo, a smiley-faced coffee! I'm happy now!

As Brian will no doubt be able to elucidate, they are something you chose that goes with your pension and they are very very important.

You'll have to ask him for the rest, I'm afraid... I haven't drunk my coffee, had a nap or read the guide yet. :D

I'm losing my way a bit today...

Too much I ought to be getting on with: at least I ought to do something.

The papers for my ISA have arrived... urgh. Loads of small print. I'm supposed to trawl through this? (Yes). But I've already gone through the online stuff which is all you need to read to set it up. Actually I got stuck on the covering letter! Does 'subscribe' mean take out an ISA or pay into an ISA? I took this one out in the last financial year so as long as I'm within my ISA allowance can i open another later or does everything have to go into this one?

Why I am getting bogged down in this I don't know, apart from that I like to cross every 'T' and dot every 'i'. I'm not going to have the funds to go over my ISA limit unless I inherit and even then I think it night go to the mortgage before the ISA. Yes, in theory I could be opening an ISA with a higher interest rate but for the amount of interest I'll earn it's not worth worrying about that.

So I need to find something to do which won't drive me batty and involve sitting even longer at the computer. Options:

Look out the papers for F - no idea where they went and I can't leave it forever.
[STRIKE]Put SF out in her run[/STRIKE] (too wet)
    [STRIKE]Put washing on line[/STRIKE]
make an inventory of another kitchen shelf
    check my tax code
    [STRIKE]do some ironing[/STRIKE]

    Back later.

Definitely batty by now and still at the computer.

I have drafted a revision timetable for DS2 which is almost totally useless as he will refuse to use it but he hasn't got a clue how much work he should be putting in right now with GCSEs a months away so at least it gives me an informed basis from which to nag him!

One useful thing about it has been to highlight he's supposed to be in two exams at once - that should be fun! I've rung the exams office and left a message.

I've realised why I'm dithering about today - the waiting's coming to the fore. We should know about DH's job in the next day or so, which accounts for my unexpected financial acitivity - yes, as if sorting out a pension contribution from 1989 is really going to make a difference! :)

Aaargh and more aaargh! Things got a bit fraught though I'm okay now. :D

DH and colleagues now won't hear about their job till at least Monday, grrr. Like they all want to wait over the weekend! Then we heard that there's been someone in Mum's house. Of course she's not there and so far the cleaner hasn't found anything missing though someone appears to have made a start on moving ornaments off sills and leaving footprints. :( However there's no sign of forced entry which is odd. I've spoken to the neighbour one side and the other is away, and of course have reported it and got a crime number. We'll have to see what tomorrow brings.

So DH and I went out for a brisk walk to calm down.... and I still don't understand either pensions or ISAs. :D

Tomorrow's another day and I will be spending much of it at work.

    Grr to DH's work

Sorry to hear about your mum's house. Will you be able to visit soon to see if you can find out what's happening?

    Pensions? ISA's? Who knows? :rotfl:

We were kind of intending to go over in a couple of weeks or so HL. I've got a builder coming to do some patching up and wanted to go over and be part of the action (not... but it's about time I went anyway). If the Police get back to me tomorrow I might go overnight depending what they advise.

I read a bit of the ISA leaflet and it made sense. Not pushing my luck though. ;)

Well, I have a story and a half to tell, but first let me note that I've saved £1.10 over the past three days on breads and apples, to be added to my signature.

The story: as you may recall, I had a text from Mum's cleaner yesterday to say that she thought someone had been in the house - things were moved and there were white marks on the floor. I called the Police and neighbours while she and her husband assessed the damage. It turned out everyone had been away over the Easter weekend but there was no sign of a break in although things had been moved in various places - odd things, like some glass ornaments on the landing that had been blue-tacked so they wouldn't fall were off their blue tack, and a box of newspaper cuttings had been tipped out. Nothing appeared to be missing. Oddly, it looked as though things had been cleared to make a quick exit through a back window, but the window has a metal grill and it didn't seem to have been used.

The only conclusion I could come to was that someone had broken in to the adjacent house (owners still away) and got in through the loft - hence dust - or that someone had a copy of the key. There's no money and very little an opportunist thief would be looking for so I wondered if kids had got in and just been noseying about.

Today the cleaner went back in with the Police to have a look in full daylight and they searched the place.

DH came to see me at work to say he'd had a phone call. As they looked around they had eventually found the culprit... a very large crow! Sadly, it had been trapped and died. I don't know for sure how it got in (unless it had the duplicate key) but I'm guessing it fell down the chimney and was strong enough to force aside the screen in the grate and fly round the house.

I'm vastly relieved (though sorry for the crow: they are intelligent creatures and there's a chance other crows are wondering where it went). In a strange way it has made me feel a lot more relaxed about going back there. I can see clearly that I need to go through the security system and make sure it's all doing what it should do, I need to check for any remaining valuables and take them away, I need to install the mobile phone I bought for the house a while ago, I have to ask the builder to check the cowl on the chimney and I have to empty and unplug the freezer. If I am really organised I might get the chimney sweep in, but that might be pushing things a bit.

How nice to have a list. :)
