Ryanair Denied Boarding

Hi all,

Dont know if i am in the right or wrong but would appretiate any advice.

My wife and i were due to fly Tuesday, 6th, at 4.30pm from Dinard, France back to East Midlands with Ryanair.

Now i admit we had a few problems getting to Dinard Airport which i wont go into. I had previously booked in via the internet and printed off our boarding passes. The boarding passes we printed off says the gate shuts 15.55pm and boarding is at 16.30.

As i mentioned we had problems getting to airport but as we had already checked in thought we were ok. We arrive at Dinard right on 15.55 to hear them announce the desk was now shut. No problem i thought as we booked in days ago and had our boarding passes.

We turned round to thank my wifes elderly parents for driving at breakneck speed and kiss them goodbye only to see the Ryanair monkeys walk over and slam the doors to the security examination area closed.

As usual arguing with these monkeys is a waste of time and they stated we were late for the flight and they were obviously loving this power trip of denying us our trip home.

Were do i stand? As i already had boarding passes so the closing of the check-in desk at 15.55 was irrelevent to me but i was astounded to see them slam the doors to the security area closed as we walked to it, and i mean litterly walked to it 3 feet away, surley security is open no matter what?

I was arguing the toss the get onto the flight when the Ryanair woman announced, "excuse me while i make an announcement". She then stopped talking to me to announce over the tannoy that the flight was running 45mins late!!! That means it was just leaving East Midlands at that time.

I was still actualy still watching people go through security procedures through the glass door but this Ryanair mob were adimant we were late and that was that.

The Ryanair rep then said she could get us onto the 10.30pm flight to Stansted later that day. Thanks i said before the punchline was delivered. "That will be 299 Euros each sir"..........

Is what they did right?

As i had our boarding passes printed off i cannot see why they had the right to close security. I mean if i was late getting to the gate to the plane i can see why they could say i missed it but this was not the case.

I however had a nightmare 17 hour ferry and bus trip home and a day missed at work.

You were late to the airport and then stopped to greet elderly relatives. Ryanair said the flight closes at a certain time. They expect you to be in the security area at that time.

You was late. I remember booking a ryanair flight for my girlfriends father and it clearly said you have to be in the security area for a particular time (which is like 40-50 mins before boarding modalities began). Most airlines won't wait for you they want their planes in the air making revenue not on the ground costing them cash.

All I can suggest in future set off 20 minutes earlier? You don't have any claim against ryanair

You seem to overlook that he was 3 ft from the security desk when it was closed, and people were still proceding through the security checks as he sttod there. Sounds to me like Ryanair had already let some standby customers on and given away his seat.

He checked in, he was proceding to security/departures and would not have held up the flight as he was joining the security line. Airlines do still have some humanity, except in the case when they sell a seat twice!

    Yes kwaks,

    This is my point.

    I HAD checked in.

I was feet away from this glass door and as soon as the digital clock struck 15:56 these doors were slammed shut and that was that.

I would think that the aim to sell me a last minute ticket at full wack to Stansted was the main aim here.

If i was late then fair enough, lesson learned.

One thing for sure though. I have flown Ryanair countless times and they have had a lot of buisness from me over the years but that act will ensure they wont ever get a single penny of me again as long as i live.

By your own admission you admit you was late. Ryanair would be charged alot of money if they accept late passengers (The cut off is there for a reason) that holds up the flight would the late passengers pay these charges?

It wasn't their aim at all. The rest of your flight got there on time you didn't, or are you saying Ryanair caused you getting to the airport late?

No they didnt, the sod with the fancy boat who caused the birdge over the enterence to the harbour to be lifted stopping traffic was the cause.

My question was are all passengers required to be checked in by 15:55, not go through security by then.

    Looks like a lesson learned.

I think the chance to sell you a full price ticket to Stanstead is only half the opportunity. They have already taken the money off you once and probably off a couple of standby customers as well.

For your benefit & Limit. Ryanair say you need to be at boarding gate 30 mins before departure, therefor you WERE NOT late.

It does strike me as particularly unfair given the flight was delayed. It sounds as though there's no way that letting you through could have held up the flight.

Beziers (SW France) is the opposite - they've only got one gate, so they only allow you to go through security 20 minutes before departure! I always check-in online, turn up to the airport 30-60 minutes early and then sit around waiting before I can do anything. I guess it very much depends on the airport...

No limit they were not. The checkin/baggage drop closes 40 minutes before departure, they had checked in and no mention so far of baggage to be stowed.

Ryanair decree they must be at the departure gate 30 minutes before departure.

Ryanair do not have limits on when you must pass through security (most are 24 hr so not an issue). However they do give you the courtesy of 10 minutes from the close of check in to reach the gate. In this case the OP was denied this and was prevented by Ryanair staff in reaching the gate, in this case against their own procedures.

From Ryanairs website and assuming the OP is correct in his account then he did nothing wrong.

How can you call the staff monkeys? They were there on time!

You have to have completed all formalities by 15.55. You had not even got to the security area by then. Who is at fault here?

Was it the 16.25 flight? If so, you should have been at the gate at 15.55. At the gate means ready to board, not at the other side of security. Boarding did not start at 16.30, it started at 15.55.

Might help if you checked the correct time of the flight!

Again, check your facts on the Ryanair website, the OP has quoted the wrong time.
