I can say with more or less 100% certainity, you wouldn't go to prison. But lying about it won't help. At all. If you do get caught (I'm not suggesting that you go to the police and tell them what you did for one minute - that's crazy!) then you should be honest. It will make all the difference, trust me! The courts don't have enough space in prisons for burglars, drug dealers and robbers, let alone you! I don't think it would ever get to the place where the police get involved, as I said before, but, seriously, BE HONEST if it does!

You will simply get a CIFAS warning on your credit file if lenders find out, this is standard practice and will stop you getting any credit, even a savings account. But it beats being busted ! The police wont be bothered about such 'small' amounts, really.

The banks themselves if they find out may 'close' the account, you then agree repayment at whatever you can pay and thats that..., They dont like being splashed in the papers for taking people to court, its expensive, bad press and also if they did sue you... how are you gonna pay em £xxxxx compo?

Dont worry and just dont do it again ....

    Hi up the creek

Let me try to help here i am an accreditted fraud investigator and spent 15 yrs in the Police.

lets deal with bad news first. Yes you have potentially committed a number of offences, deception, obtaining a pecuniary advantage, obtaining a telepgraphic transfer. All of these are serious and serious enought to get you in a court of law as well as potentially a custodial sentence. I'm not about to tell you how to plead your way out of it either. You know you have been stupid and you now recognise that.

The good news. The liklihood of you being sent to prison as a first offence is slim in the extreme. I would suggest that you deal with your debts in the same way anyone else would and if questions start to get asked be open and honest dont compound the issue with lies. The lenders will be far more interested in getting their money back.

If you need any other advice or support message me. More than happy to help. BTW i dont work in the finance industry so im not taking sides, andi'm here cause im in deep financial doo doo myself.

    Good luck

As for others who are less than understanding, take a close look at yourselves we have all done bad things in the past just a question of degrees.
