Most charities could teach governments a lesson or two in wasting money
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

If you pick up the job papers on a regular basis you will see the big charities all offer their top people salary packages in excess of 100k.

After the managing director the second highest paid position is usually the fundraising director.

They employ agencies on commission rates to sign up people and they increase payments once they are signed up.

Even on the ground regional managers get decent company cars to whizz about in and although prestige badges are out anything else goes.

My sister in law was a chugger for one summer when she was at uni and the stories she used to tell about what happens behind the scenes was shocking.

These days its more about picking up free clothes from your front door then selling it off with a portion going to charity.

If you want to help a charity I agree with previous posters about keeping it local and putting it in the hands of those that need it directly. If you put money in an RSPCA box it goes to the centre. If you put 10 tins of chum at your local shelter in goes in the dogs mouth.

Couldnt agree with your post more, this bit made me smile and it couldnt be more true, although not sure how this would work with other charities....they seem very picky about what they will and wont take, I used to give most things away to charity when I bought new but after so many conversations along this line
me "I have x to donate"
them "is it on good condition"
me "yes, its in very good condition"
them "well I guess we could come and see it but may not take it"
me "dont go to the trouble/put yourself out, I will sell it on ebay and give the money to someone else"
I now sell most things on ebay and put money to the childrens savings accounts

You can't cancel your NSPCC DD! How would they be able to afford to run their slick adverts on primetime television suggesting that everyone in the country is a !!!!!phile if everyone stopped donating to them?

Preable - that the second post on this thread where you have said abouts dogstrust.

This thread was about giving money to the NSPCC - A charity for the protection of children - not animals!

OP - please do not stop your donations due to one rude salesman, and if you do stop donating then give the money to a different childrens charity - not an animal one please!

It's up to the OP who he donates money to, but in my opinion the likes of NSPCC get a lot more money than most, and animal charities often struggle. To be honest though, I think the OP could donate to any small local charity and they'd be very grateful for it. Certainly more grateful than NSPCC who can afford to pay for advertising and paid staff.

Best of luck, and good on you for not letting that cheeky sod put you off giving! :)
  • Once went with a guy to a national charity, who raised thousands every year. he was to recieve a special award and invited into the regional meeting. he left in disgust as they discussed how they would invest their retuirns that quarter in property and shares, as they were awash with funds.

Needless to say he has not raised a penny for them since!

Most charities are corrupt in some way, even the London Marathon is corrupt, they are not supposed to hang onto funds raised they should hand them out to the people that it was supposed to go to.

Africa is the worst, totally corrupt.
    Owed out = lots.
