What !!!!es me off are the TV adverts, I watch the TV to be entertained, not see starved animals and filthy looking children at tea-time. And it is only £2 per month. Yeh! how much did the advert cost to make.

Latest one, I have a niece who is blind, she asks for money so she can climb Everest.

I would like to climb Everest but can't afford it. How much of the donation will it take to get her to Everest? That is some guilt trip she is trying to put me through. Why doesn't she climb Snowdonia in the winter? She wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Suppose I'd better shut up now before all Hell breaks loose.

If you don't want to help the "filthy looking children", then don't.

But some people, thank god, do want to help them

I'm pretty sure that the people who DO want to help neglected children, ill-treated animals, African villages that don't have access to water etc etc will do so by actively seeking out the charity they are interested in rather than having a 'lightbulb' moment after seeing an advert in between Coronation Street episodes.

I wonder just how much extra revenue these ad campaigns bring in versus the cost of making and airing them.

If advertising didn't work, be it McDonalds or NSPCC, then they wouldn't do it. I'm 100% sure that more people go to McDonalds because they advertise and I'm 100% sure that charities that help "filthy looking children" get more money (even after costs) because they advertise.

I also used to give to the NSPCC by DD; did so for years. One day I actually had to put the phone down on one lady who wouldn't stop hassling me about children in trouble. I kept telling her that I wasn't prepared to increase my donation but she went on and on and on...in the end I cancelled the DD. I still get letters from them but the phone calls stopped after I told them I had been made redundant.

We give to Oxfam and apart from the odd letter that's it.

How do they know whether a new direct debit is as a result of:
    1. a TV campaign
    2. mailshot
    3. being stopped and pestered in the street
    4. cold calling at your house
    5. someone just deciding to donate

Because each of those channels will have a different campaign code which will be tracked into the database. For example, on the mailshot where you fill in your details will be the campaign code hidden somewhere.

They will then track which campaigns work (as in donors stay and which donors upgrade) in the long term.

Contact the NSPCC and tell them.

Once again, suspect it was an agency working on NSPCC's behalf and if NSPCC realise the mistake I'd wager they would refund you and get the money off the agency

The aagency is called Pell & Bales sister company of Supporter INSIGHT. If you google the company name you will se the headline that they actually employed a guy who had been convicted of grooming a child to make the calls to the public on behalf of the NSPCC and also featured in the news of the world who had sent in an undercover reporter to note the harrassing techniques they use over the telephone.

Why not just strap her to the back of Brian Blessed? He goes up and down there so often it's like a second home to him. He could also offer a shouty commentary so she wouldn't miss anything.
