Just £2 a month

I donate £5 per month to Wateraid and have done for several years. No-one has ever rung me to ask for more. (Actually I need to increase this as £5 doesn't go as far as it did anywhere!) I have had someone ring after I'd responded to a 'disaster appeal' asking me to organise a house to house collection in my area. No. 'Chuggers' I ignore or smile if they approach me and say no. There are other charities I choose to support but I'll do the choosing thankyou.0

There is a charity called the U foundation (u foundation dot org). This is a small charity helping children in Zambia.
The great thing about them is that they are run out of a company. The company cover all of the administrative costs, so 128% of your money goes directly to those who need it most. They also regularly ship supplies to Zambia and are always looking for childrens books etc. I know I risk breaching the rules with this reply, I am sorry, but I am not associated with this charity. They work with UNICEF to support their projects.0 -
Dogstrust is the only charity i give to

Blimey.
Any other business would be roundly and rightly declared as a scam and wouldn't last the month out. Sickening that they get away with talking to the people who pay them like that. This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

I can understand your frustration with NSPCC.
If I'd had your experience I'd have cancelled my DD immediately after being told that
with the retort that 'if it makes so little difference, you won't miss it then, will you!'"sir your donation is tiny it makes very little difference"
I donate to a few charities (not the NSPCC) on a monthly basis (only £2 per month each) and have done so for a number of years.
I'd really love to be able to afford more as they are all charities close to my heart for various reasons but I'm now retired and can't.
All the charities send me letters regularly either asking for an increase in the monthly amount or for a one-off donation.
As you say, it makes you feel guilty.
I'm seriously considering writing back to them all and asking for them to take me off their 'more money please' mailing lists or I'll cancel the direct debit altogether.
It seems a shame (and a waste of money) that they're doing all these mailshots.0 -
Well, I would certainly cancel any donations to them with a remark like that!
I am sick to the back teeth with charities at the moment, particularly the larger ones. I used to work for a cancer charity (it went on to merge and become a major player), and to perfectly honest, I was paid large sums of money for what I did, really not justified. It opened my eyes as to how much money really gets to where it is needed.
I am a soft touch when it comes to many causes, but it is impossible to give to everyone and although I will drop money in a collecting tin for small charity collections, I only donate regularly to the Salvation Army. Not a member, mind you, but they cover such a broad spectrum, I work on the assumption that my money is being well spent:)0 -
I bought Christmas cards from UNICEF a few years back and they started calling me at home in the evenings to see if they could get me to donate money by direct debit. I had to be quite rude in the end to get rid of them."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

This is the reason i won't be persueded by their speel "just £2 a month" you know darned well they will keep asking for more. I gave a donatin a couple of time to the wwf charity and was inundated with letters, address envolops, and raffle tickets. It must have cost far more than i had given. Never again.0

I became very disillusioned with charities when on the money for clicks sites there were several charities offering money per click. If they can afford to give money away they don't need mine.
Nowadays I support my local charities after all charity does start at home.Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.0 -
I've been donating £3 per month to the NSPCC for about 12 years and I have never in all that time had anyone phone me to increase my donation. If I'd been phoned as many times as you had I would cancel my DD and give to another local charity like our air ambulance.0
